New to car audio.

Hey guys, I recently purchased my first car, I would like to add an amp and sub into it, I can afford around 700 with installation.
I am using a stock deck (non bose) I do not need lots of bass, I just want something that sounds good.
so for 700$ i got quoted
Audison Amp SRx1d 200$
2 10in Hertz sub 200$
1 dual 10in box 90
installation/wire/LOC 160

I am getting conflicting info on the LOC, some say it sounds like crap others say they cant tell the dif. This is probably going to be temporary till I can afford the metra kit and dash.

Also for my needs is 2 10in subs overkill or should I get one 10 or 12 inch.
Like I said before I dont need lots of bass I just want something that can hit the lows.

if you just want to hear the low end you could use just one 10in sub but in my experience loc are not the best way to go you will most likly have distortion and engine noise unless you spend the money to get a realy good one but for the price it would cost you might aswell buy a new deck unless you like your stock one alot

IMO the Metra dash kit and wiring adaptor will be a much better and cheaper investment than a LOC. Be careful of using thoses subs in a prefab $90 box. I doubt it will be the best box for them. Just my opinion though.

Hey Dajaga,

You don't need the line out converter as the amplifier you want already has one built in. Perhaps you may want to look at another shop for your needs.

Hope this helps!

hey Tubeamp, I was just assuming I needed a LOC, _but if that amp doesnt need a LOC how does it connect to the amp through the low output.

Anyways, the place I am getting my gear I bought my hometheater equipment, and they were great.
Also they seem to have equipment that futureshop/bestbuy dont carry.

The amplifier has one built in. That unit has both rca and speaker level input. I don't know your vehicle, perhaps parallel a connection from/off the rear speakers? As long as your factory system does not process the sound to them you should be ok... or if your system has a factory sub, use those wires.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the help Tubeamp, but I am a little confused on where I splice, I know with the LOC's you splice it from the harness. But if I am using the high level input I splice regular speaker wire from the harness and run it to the amp?
Also my car doesnt have a factory subs

Thats right, you connect it to the same place you would with an external LOC. If you're still not sure, I would suggest to have a shop do it for you.

Hope this helps!

I have one 10" RE Audio SRX in my Montana with the bose factory stuff and it is lots of bass with amp gains and bass eq at minimum for break-in time. Once it is broken in and getting full power (300-400rms), I will probably be looking at upgrading components to keep a balanced sound.
I used a LOC ($70, installer said it was "the good one") and am happy with the sound so far. Maybe not as good as a new deck (I cant notice it even when cranked), but definitely better than the speaker level inputs on an amp.
And if you go with one sub, you can put the cash you saved into the enclosure. Unless the box is prefabbed by the sub company for that woofer it will probably not be ideal. I spent $75 on materials(incl. $50 on sweet vinyl to match the dash) and built a custom console to the volume spec of the driver. Saved cash by doing it myself, and the sound is awesome. I dont know if your schedule or skill set would allow for this, but it is a good cash saving option. The installer told me the box would be $300 if he built it for me. The box is one of the last places you want to be stingy.

Sounds like we have similar goals and budgets so I hope some of this helps.

Cheers,
footballdad

If you decide to install an aftermarket hu then do a little asking around about the mounting kits... I had no choice when I bought my 09 lancer but to get the metra kit because it was the only one out at the time but now I'm hearing that the scosche kit is a much better fit for my car...
