New To Car Audio!!

Hey guys, I'm totally new to this stuff. And I was wondering what the difference between the 10" subs and 12" subs are, obviously size, but what does that account for? I drive an 03 honda civic and was wondering what would be best suited for my car. I'm into a lot of trance music, but im also into metal, so I want something that'll pound for both those types of music. Im also not looking to spend a lot of money. Some suggestions would be appreciated. Also i'm in the Hamilton area if anyone has some solid used audio stuff they are selling.

generally, 12's will go lower in frequency than 10's. that's why I use 15's.

also, bigger subs usually take more power, play louder.

There's no replacement for displacement......

yea generaly u can expect to hit lower notes, although i have 2 10" infinity perfects and they can hit lower notes than a few 12" set ups that i have seen of equal if not a little more value$.
i live in the brantford area, not too long agao i bought a 12" clarion sub in a clarion box at 500 watts rms. iv only used it for about a month and im still not sure weather i want to keep my infinity subs or the clarion they both blow me away

8's, 10's, 12's, 15's, 18's...they all sound great if set up properly. Generally, the larger the sub, the louder the lower notes are going to be all other things being equal. You can expect more ultra low frequency output from a larger sub. That said, different brands and models offer different performance, so you can get 10's that will play lower and louder than 12's from another maker. What you should do is determine how much space you have available for a sub set up before anything else...that will dtermine the largest sub you can use properly...if you're looking for maximum output. As a generality, 4-8" will give you the approximate output of 3-10's, 2-12's, or 1-15...very general and not very accurate, but gives you an idea!

im thinking 2 12"s Kickers in a ported kicker box trunk space isn't really an issue cause I dont use it. Would two 12" Kicker subs hit hard for both trance and metal music?

to most people it'll hit hard...very subjective assessment. To some guys on here, if it doesn't blow your head off, it's not hitting hard! To most, 2-12's from a decent company usually hit pretty hard. Which subs are they, model numbers, and which box? Kickers are good subs, and ported boxes usually give you a boost in sub bass, so you should like what you hear.

It has to blow your head off.

it's 2 12" kickers in a ported box made by Kicker and a Power Acoustic amp for like $300 all brand new. good deal? I get to hear it all first too to see how good it really is, but the deal sounds too good to be true so far, but I know the guy and he wouldn't rip me off. what you guys think of that set up overall, im getting the specs and sometime soon.
