Is a CD player a must? I really like the Alpine IDA-X305 with imprint (around the same price point) that I'm using. Also have a Kenwood KIV-BT900 in my wifes car, it was about $200 cheaper, still has TA but only a 5 band graphic equalize. Kenwood does have bluetooth if that matters to you.

Both are good, Alpine combo has more features but Kenwood has a very nice screen, can play videos and you can set the illumination to any color to match your dash.

I don't have much to compare to. It's better than the Kenwood. I'm guessing at the $500 price point it's pretty good. I've found the 5 band parametric eq to give much better results than the 7 band graphic eq. The Alpine also bypasses the ipod DAC so it can receive the digital losses file (if that's how you burn you're music) and uses alpines 24 Bit Burrbrown DAC. The Kenwood doesn't do this but it still sounds really good. I don't know if I can tell the difference but that's another story (many more variables). The auto tune in the imprint works good, excellent staging but if you like it bass heavy you'll have to mess with amp gains before and after you run the software. It's not idiot proof but I do really like the auto eq.

Pioneer probably has some good units too but I see their top of the line unit seems to be advertising that it's the first time a Pioneer unit has been able to bypass ipod DAC. I think that unit has a MSRP of $1200 bucks on their web site. But I could be very wrong about the Pioneer stuff. I do think it's also worth looking into though. A place that's local and very knowledgeable is Sounds Good Auto Services in Coquitlam. They carry Pioneer.
