New to the game

Hey guys I'm new to the car audio world but ever since I got my first truck I have been waiting to get a system together. Finally I just recently bough my first amp and sub.
Alpine MRP-M500 Mono Amp
10" Kicker CVT10 Sub
and a stinger amp wiring kit

So I guess first off would be is this a decent set-up for starters.
Should I be building or getting a buddy to build a box or buy one?
I will need a new deck to replace the factory one so open to any suggestions.

Thanks guy and happy to be here

Welcome to CCA. Looks like a good start. :smilie_da I'd go custom with the enclosure. That Alpine should give your kicker a good ass kickin! lol

depending on the type of music you listen to, i would suggest going with a 0.5 cubic foot enclosure (sealed) or a 1 cubic foot enclosure (ported) tuned @ 35-38hz

I mostly listen to Rap, Hip/Hop, and New Rock. But custom box is the way I should go. Now all this fancy lingo you guys are throwing around like tuned @35-38hz and ported and sealed is all new to me.

Ported means your box is tuned to play a certain frequency louder. Ported boxes are more efficient than sealed as far as SPL (sound pressure levels). Sealed usually yield better kick drum response, and some people prefer them for SQ applications.

In your case, only running one 10" sub, I'd utilize Jalats experience and build a box to his specs. :smilie_da If you ask real nice he may throw some dimensions your way. Too bad you live in BC, cause he builds them too. lol

OK will do thanks for the help bro, also one other question, can i mount my amp right on top of the enclosure or does it need to be placed somewhere different? So....jalat....would you be able to help a newbie like me with your great box building knowledge.

he does sick designs but. get jalat to design one for you. you wont regret. i have just 1 CVR in a box for SQ 1.72cf tuned at 32hz. it hammers and goes deep for rap. cant go wrong with his designs man

mthompson 07-05-2009 09:56 PM

sweet man, so jalat has designed you a box before? how hard was it to put together your self?

danyman 07-06-2009 06:43 AM

he gave me a pic ( design on similar cad program ) and gave me the dimentions of the peaces. then just cut and glue and screw together. simple as that. all you have to tell him is the size of your trunk space that you want to give up and the type of music you listen too.

mthompson 07-06-2009 12:07 PM

OK, ya he said he'd do it for me, but I just sent him the dimensions for the sub. I want the box to be as small as possible so my sub really pounds. Also did you use MDF and if so were did you buy it from, also what type of glue did you use? Thanks man for all the help.
