New (to me) vehicle...new plans :)

I just got rid of my old project car (2001 Mazda Protege) and bought a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport, which I am loving so far! I already bought a Kenwood Excelcon KDC-X692 head unit for starters. Now to move onto the speakers:). I am looking for something that is reasonably priced ($200-$250 for a set) and that will do fine un-amplified, but once amped will sound even better....and most important some decent SQ. I was thinking about possibly some Infinity Kappas? It was a factory option for the Cherokees to come with an Infinity sound system (6 speakers) and some have said that they do quite well just as they come. I am looking to stay local so brand names that would be of interest to me would be Kicker, Alpine, Kenwood, MTX, Infinity, Clarion, & Orion. Thanks guys!

All of those companies make quality speakers at different price points......:smilie_da

Time to grab a CD you know really well, preferably something you've heard in as many different systems as possible....home as well as mobile....and head off to as many places as it takes for you to listen to that disc on any and all of the speakers you are interested in. Make sure the store doesn't tweak the electronics feeding them and take notes. Anything that stands out (good or bad) should be noted so you can do an in-depth comparison once you get back home and away from the sales pressure. They will probably offer great deals (today only of course.... ) but I would wait until you have heard them all.

Speakers that fit in the factory locations will be cheaper to get installed, but don't forget to budget an appropriate amount for deadening your doors and getting those speakers installed correctly.......the amount will depend on what you want done, but you'll waste some of the money you spend on the speakers if you don't.

Nice choice on the deck, I've been an Excelon fan for years......

I never knew that stores would allow you to test out the speakers in your car and compare them without buying them first. I guess it makes sense eh? Thanks alot for the tips BigRedGuy! :D
