New Setup
 

Hey,
Im new to this forum and I need some advice on some new speakers for my VW Golf. I'm looking for decent sound quality for a range of genres without breaking the bank

I already have a Hertz 10' sub with a clarion amp and deck, other then that my setup is stock. My car takes 4-6 1/2' in the doors, 2-4' in the dash and 2-1' in the back doors.

My questions are...
should I go for component or full range speakers for the doors?
Do I NEED to replace anything in the back?

What brands/speakers would you guys recommend?

I would put all the money into the front door speakers and a 2 channel amp to suit, and continue to run the other stock speakers off the deck's power.

Most of us would agree that you "should" opt for a component set.
You do not "need" to replace anything in the back, in fact you're probably better off leaving it alone back there. Leave yourself more money for the fronts and an amp.

I am a fan of MB Quartz speakers, at least of their past offerings. I can't comment on their new products, however. I know they were bought out by another "umbrella company", so I'm not sure if they've remained true to their own designs/sound.
You're probably best off to shop around, and listen to speakers in the audio shops, to see what sounds best to you.

I havent done alot of looking arround yet at speakers but I would think 3 to 400 dollars. Would a two channel amp power both the components and 4' (tweeters?) in my dash or do you need 4?

You could mostly likely remove those 4" speakers, and drop the new tweeters from the component set into that location.
There are going to be two issues that arise if you try to include the 4" drivers with the component set. At $300 you're likely to get a component set with an RMS of 100W or more @ 4ohm. So you're going to try to match the RMS handling of the speakers with the output of the amp. If you try to add the 4" speakers into the mix, its probably going to change the resistance that the amp will see on each channel - which will change the amp's output. Secondly, the 4" speakers are going to rob power from the component set. So the components may not perform to their potential, and the 4" drivers may not even be able to handle the power you'd end up giving them.
It might be more trouble than it's worth to try and keep them.
$300-$400 bucks on components is plenty to get a very nice set of speakers, so you'd not even miss the ones in the dash...
