New Setup advice - sound quality based

Hi all,

I am setting up my first decent car audio setup. Most interested in sound quality..

What I have so far...unfortunately, nothing installed as of yet :(

Alpine CDA - 9886
Alpine Imprint Module
Sirius Module
Bluetooth Module

Amp - Arc Audio 4150 650w/4

Speakers
Front - Alpine Type X 6.5" Pro (woofer in front door, tweeter on dash)
Rear door - not purchased yet - need 4" coax for this. I was leaning towards the Jl Audio c2 4"

SUB
NONE (wife has said it is not happening...)

Thoughts of this setup?

Thanks

She does know you can turn it off when she's in the car, right? And that you can take it out if you have to pack a lot of crap?

No thoughts on your system; your marriage...well, that's a different matter. Then again, who am I to talk? We all know all about the concept of "not allowed". Don't get me started. Oops, too late.

I just spent 6 hours the hell out of the house. Glenora ferry over to Picton; sat in the car at Lake on the Mountain Park listening to Randy Bachman's Vinyl Tap--now back home to God Knows What. Guess our nice leisurely drive to Wellesley Island tomorrow to pick up my MBQuart PVI216s may not be happening. Hey, how about a road trip? Maybe we can get our wives together to talk girl talk and we'll go. Oh crap--you're in Halifax.

Guess the "Wife Appeal Factor" is not limited to home audio. Good luck, my brother.

I would have to agree. Convince the wife that it can be turned off or taken out when needed. IMO it would be hard to achieve what you want without a little umpf.

Okay...done :)

I am now looking at one of these options...

Need to make a decision today...

Option a) Alpine Plt -5 (uses PDX amp interally - reviews seem amazing)

Option b) Alpine Type E 12" in Sealed Box with a Clarion APX 1300 Amp.

I am leaning towards the PLT5.... smaller and has a better amp. Plus I am looking for tight clean bass...( listen to older R&B, Jazz and some pop)

ie. not really interested in bouncing down the street.

Thoughts?

Question 2
trying to decide on the rear door speaker too

I have a lead on a pair of infinity reference 4" for $60 (new)

but the speakers that were on my list initially were one of these..

Alpine sps-400 4". $99
JL audio c2's 4" $129
Hertz ESK 4". $140

I know these are less important... But should I get the infinity's? Or one of the others?

I really don't like the Alpine S type anywhere near that size, especially amped. I personally would leave the rears out and run the front active on that 4 channel with the small Alpine sub you've picked out.

What about running the type x components active, then put the hertz in the rear doors running off the head unit?

My other thought was........Wouldn't that amp be way too much power for the components though?

RomanticMoments 06-08-2010 07:35 PM

Might be a bit much for the tweets, but it would work fine. If they are the real deal, the pro X's should handle that power. Unless people are in the back seat alot, there's not a real good reason to have rears in my opinion. Plus with that level of power on the front stage, you wouldn't hear the rears, the fronts would over power them. In this case, because they would be taking the full range (vs running them as part of a 3 way set), it would colour the sound in a bad way and pull the sound stage back
