New system (OPINIONS PLEASE!!!!)

Hey guys,

I am currently looking to get rid of my old system and revamp it with a new one. I am looking at 2 Kenwood KFC-XW1222D's and powering it with either a Power Acoustik BAMF-4000/1D, Kenwood KAC-X1R, HIFONICS BXi1608D. All three deliver around the same amount of power in terms of a 2-ohm rating and looking at how much power the Power Acoustik amp will really lose seeing that their ratings are always bull. Let me know what you think about this dillemma i'm in. Oh yeah, I do have a custom box built for it, sealed though and am running off of 12V, sorry, I drive an Alero.

I can't see the Power Acoustik being in the same class as the X1R. I have a X4R and it's very good but I don't think the either the X1R or X4R have the ***** to really drive a sub(s).

Just got a Digital Designs M80 and it is awesome....and it's 1 ohm stable. Definitely cheaper than a retail X1R but more than a Fleabay one. The DD's are some beefy amps.

I can never stress buying quality equipment over buying based on price. By all means look for the best deal on a quality amp, but try to avoid the cheapo brands. IMO they really are killing the market and bringing down peoples expectations overall.

I'm a bit of a stickler for matching parts that show. like subs/amp. shop around for the best price on a Kenwood X1R.

response

I was gearing towards the x1r also, but I was wondering if it would be good enough to push the subs at 12V. From what I can see the sub only pushes 800RMS at 2 ohms. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to set up a 1ohm system, but don't know if the amp or the subs can handle it. I was reading that a 1 ohm setup on the x1r can cause the amp to overheat.

Anyways, I might get the x1r and found a good price on millionbuy.com. If anyone has other opinions let 'em rip.

I got my X4R from millionbuy....has been good so far. I heard the X1R popped fuses at 1 ohm though. My DD barely gets warm.

it does 1200Wrms@2ohm mono. it'll be fine, anything above a 600Wrms is jus gravy anyways. the jump from 600Wrms to 1200Wrms is oly a 3 decibel increase in output. 3 Db's is the human hearing threshold for noticing hat the sound in a room was actually increased. your 1222D's are dual 2 ohm. so with a pair of them in paralell-series you get 2ohm final load. it's a great match up.

thanks a lot guys. I should be getting the amp next week, if all goes well. I was looking at wiring the 2 subs with 8 gauge to the amp and running 4 gauge ground and power cables. All wiring is stinger and I most likely will put an anl fuse rated at around the 100 range for now b/c im thinking about amping my speaker setup. I already have a box built for the subs as the old subs I had required the same specs. By the way, what kind of box would you guys recommend for the 1222W's?

I always reccomend a custom made box to suit your subs and vehicle.

Also for a 16ft run of 4 guage, never put any bigger than an 80 amp fuse. Anything bove that your heating up the wire. If you amp pulls in excess of that.. get bigger wire.
