New style can handle more power. Other than that there isn't a reason to spend the money to upgrade to new series. If you're happy with how they sound keep them.

If you're going to spend the money to upgrade I would upgrade to better speakers that will still work nicely on 1000watts. Maybe a pair of OZ Matrix Elites or JL W6v2's.

there is far more difference between an old type r and the new one than just power handling, perhaps you should educate yourself before feel qualified to pass such and uninformed opinion..... the new trpe r woofer uses radically different cooling in the basket, eddy plates in the pole vent, a different surround that gives it far more linearity at high excusrion, a lighter more rigid cone, completely different spiders, the diffences are far more than just power handling, its so different that there is at least a dozen pending pattents on the new typr r and x

yeah i heared that new type r's are built similar to type x's
i just can get this upgrade for under 150$ since my brother would buy my current type r's
i just dont know if its worth it or not
id be using the same box and i dont know if that is okay for this subs or alse if 200WRMS higher subs will be much louder to be able to notice or not :dunno:

btw is there such thing a rule that say extra 'x' Watts increased db's by 'x'?

eg0r, if you ever find out or have a listen to a new type R compared to old please let me know. I was also considering this.

Double the watts = 3 DB's.

Easy Muffin. Read a little better next time you want to get snarky. I said the new series handles more power but that is the only REASON (note I said REASON not DIFFERENCE) to upgrade to the new series.

I'll say it again as I believe TheBoy will need to read it at least twice before he understands something; If you've got an old style Type R and are looking to upgrade you should look into other drivers as just dumping an old style R for a new style R in terms of performance will not be worth it.

Sorry....it was a semi drunk post....I tried to keep it technical and to the point!

unless ive read wrong yet again, you say the only reason to upgrade is power handling, which is totally incorect, i didnt misread, its exactly what you said, the difference between the new typr r and old is far more that power handling and the person looking to upgrade could easily get a huge upgrade going from old to new, as someone who has extensive use of both old and new, i can say your statements are likely baseless and only an opinion based on what youve read with no real world experience, if i am wrong, if you have expereince with both please tell us the story of your experience, i for one would love to hear it

Hardwrkr 11-14-2006 03:20 AM

I've listened to both. Many many times. Old Type R is a good sounding speaker and solid for the money. New Type R is a good sounding speaker and solid for the money. Would I consider the difference in performance from old series to new series worth the cost of buying the new Type R's vs that of other driver's available for someone looking for a better driver than the old series? NO!

(please don't ask me to write this a forth time)
