Newb question regarding subs and amp
Hey so im pretty much clueless when it comes to car audio, and i plan on picking up some subs tommorow along with a amp. I work at futureshop so i get a discount there and at best buy, so id like to go with something there even though i know its not the best. Im pretty sure the amp im going to get is going to be a MTX 800watt RMS its the 8001, Along with 2 10" Subs, Most likely Apline Type R DVC's, If they dont have any of those left im going to either go with energy or rockford.
I also have a Eclipse AVN 5435 Double din deck if that has anything to do with it :P Also what type of box should i get ? Sealed?
Thanks alot for the help

Well, i'm too tired right now to search, but match the amp to the subs. In other words, if the MTX (nothing wrong with MTX imo) is only stable down to 2 ohms, then get subs that can be wired down to a 2 ohm final load. that way you extract the most power from your amp.
match up the RMS output from the amp to the subs as well. If the amp is putting out out 800 WRMS, then your subs should be rated at least for 400 WRMS each (800/2=400) but higher is good (within reason).
You are on the right track following the RMS numbers. With minor exceptions, thats all that matters.
As for sealed or ported, well, that depends on a few things. first and foremost is go to the manufactures website and see if the sub is recommended more for one than the other. Some are, some arent.
The website will also give you information on the subs which you can use for building an enclosure. We have many skilled people on here who build damn nice enclosures. Do a search.
You will NEVER get a prefab that will be as good as a custom made box, and they are not that expensive.
Sealed also sounds different than ported. A little 'tighter", not as much rumble. Sealed is also usually smaller space requirements. Downside is it takes a bit more power to get the same dec level as ported. The air in the box acts as spring against the cone. takes more power to push it.
That MTX probably tested out at 850 WRMS + so i wouldnt worry too much about power.
Now you didint mention too much about the rest of the system. if you have the doors amplified, you are probably getting into the "upgrade the car a bit" area. Another topic though.
cheers
