Newbi could use some advice...

Hey guys,

Im looking at getting 2 subs and an amp from kijiji but i don't really know much about what i found. does anyone here know anything about this system?

here is what the ad says;
"i have a infinity amp and 2 sub boxes with subs the are audio bahn subs i think they are 800 watts they are 10' or 12 ' subs in good shape they work good and sound really nice just need them gone i sold my car and now i have no need for them as of now i have a suv im selling them for $200 dollers or make an offer"

i already e-mailed the person for more info on them, but i guess he doesn't even know. he did say he got them 2 years ago though. if any one can shed some light on this that would be great. i'm also going to build a sealed box for these (if i get them) so does anyone know what volume i should build it for these?

Personally, I'm always nervous about buying something from someone who can't even give details about what they are selling, especially when they don't even know what size the subs are. No details as to what model the subs or amp are to research. I'd be even more nervous if I was a self proclaimed newbie and I didn't know how to test a sub for signs of abuse without being able to hear them hooked up.

On the other hand, it may be a great deal IF everything works like the seller says they do.

Infinity Reference 311a

•mono subwoofer car amplifier
•116 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (312 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms)
•variable low-pass filter (32-320 Hz @ 12 dB/octave)
•Dynamic Bass Optimization (DBO) circuit (0-12 dB @ 20-80 Hz)
•CEA-2006 compliant
•preamp inputs and outputs
•fuse rating: 30A x 1
•8-gauge power and ground leads recommended — wiring and hardware not included with amplifier
•13-1/4"W x 2-11/16"H x 12-1/8"D
•warranty: 1 year

Theres the specs on the amp, the small wedge box looks like a 12" to my by looking at the surround, and the one with the amp on it is deff a 12" as the amp is 13 1/4 wide.

The subs I think are the AW series...

I personally would be leary about purchasing from this guy, based on his knowledge of his own gear. If he cant put a tape measure on the subs, who's to say he can tell when his system is distorting!

I also have a biased opinion on the gear, as I dont care for audiobahn much, nor really infinity however there are many ppl out there usin there gear, and are extremely happy with it!
bang for the buck I think is there, if the gear works though!

Thanks for the specs on that amp.
Yeah, i hear what you guys are sayin about buyin used. and frankly i'm really debating on going used, its just that its cheaper. i have been thinking about getting some stuff from best-buy as well. what do y'all think about the precision acoustics stuff from there?

i might go in this direction;
Precision Acoustics 500 Watt Subwoofer Amplifier (PA500D) : Mono Subwoofer Amps - Best Buy Canada
precision acoustics 500w subwoofer amp (pa500d)

and 2 of these

Precision Acoustics 10" Car Subwoofer (PA1004) : 10" Subwoofers - Best Buy Canada
precision acoustic 10" car subwoofer (pa1004)

Used isnt always a bad thing, its used by someone who doesnt know how to use it proper is when its an issue!
I got accouple questions:
Do u have a specific budget for subs and amp?
What are u lookin to get out of your gear? like are u lookin to just get some decent bass or over the top bass, and just good boom for the buck?
I have NO opinion on that other gear, as I dont know much about it sry.

Have u looked at any of the private smaller stores, or is there a reason why u are looking to best buy? just the price?
