Newbie looking to get first system- would like some advice

I have never had any sort of system installed and am looking into getting one put into my 2002 Honda Civic.

Ill just try to explain what I am willing to spend and what I am looking for. My maximum spending limit is probably like 800 or so (for equipment only). If you want to recommend something slightly higher than this though go ahead, since I am able to maybe get a discount from the listed rate for some of this stuff through a friend.

Anyway enough of that and onto the important stuff. I am a music lover, and listen to all kinds of music from 60s rock like The Doors, The Beatles, Cream, The Who etc to the Jazz greats like Miles Davis and Charles Mingus to the Punk Rock and New Wave of the 70s/80s and I also love Hip Hop. Point is, I listen to everything and have a very eclectic taste. I want the music to sound like it is supposed to sound and how the musicians intended to sound. I do not want overbearing bass (although if I had the option to turn up the bass for stuff like Hip Hop and Bob Marley and Pfunk, I certainly wouldn't complain).

So basically I want nice punchy bass but not overbearing bass and I am looking for something as high quality as I can go within my price range with this style of sound.

For terms of loudness, I probably want it to be able to go reasonable loud, but it doesn't need to be at insane levels, sound quality is a more important to me than loudness.

If anyone has any recommendations, I would love to hear them as I am just starting to look into stuff. And If you need any more information also let me know, Ill respond the best I can.

Thanks.

My system

I have my first system still hooked up, and after 6 months of nothing but wide open power still sounds brand new. it only cost 700 bucks with me doing all my wiring and box building. I recommend kickers for a first system. no they don't win competitions but they are awesome for some bump in your trunk. I have a JVC head unit, alpine 3331 EQ and 2 sets of Kicker 6x8's. 2 Kicker comps 12" in 2.6ft3 per sub in a custom box filling my whole trunk. i have set off car alarms. its impressive for 700 dollars. My highs and mids are powered by a kicker 125.2 and my comps are run by a kicker 250.1 at 2 ohms.

I recommend starting with a head unit (deck) amp and good quality front stage and a Lil deadner and just add to it as you go.

You may try a combination of Kenwood HU(CD Deck) and Infinity 6 1/2 Front and 5 1/4 Rear speakers or Pioneer HU and Front and Rear speakers. For the subs try Kicker or Rockford Fosgate if you want the Kenwood/Infinity combo or MTX if you want the Pioneer combo. Here are the links for the parts: HU: http://www.crutchfield.ca/Receivers_s/300.htm Front speakers: http://www.crutchfield.ca/6_1_2_Speakers_s/52000.htm Rear speakers: http://www.crutchfield.ca/5_1_4_Speakers_s/51800.htm Subwoofer(s): http://www.crutchfield.ca/Powered_Subwoofers_s/51000.htm

For some odd reason or another the links don't work properly. Just copy and paste them to the address bar. P.S. Like what dta1 said sound deadening is also a good investment.
