Noob needs help

I just installed an Alpine MRD-M605 mono amp in my truck powering one cheap ass Type S 10" dual 4ohms. This amp is overpowering it so much that the sub looks like it wants to jump out of the box.lol What is a good setup that will hold this amp no with problems. 2 10's or 2 12's? The box says 400w RMS @ 4ohms but it must be more. Cause I was powering the same sub with a MTX MXA4001 400 watt amp with no problems.I know this is dumb questions but I don't know nuffin:dunno:

did u wire the sub @ 2 ohms, ur amp is 600 watts rms @ 2 ohms so u would be ovrpowering ur sub by 300 watts. just set ur gains correctly and turn down/off bass boost if ur using it.

Here's the deal. I just bought a new 06 Trailblazer SS. It has the XM/Bose system with the DVD in the rear.Plus it has a radio in the rear so that the kiddies can listen to the radio or watch the DVD while I listen to my own music. I bought a PAC AOEM-GM24 that is a plug and play unit to give me RCA's to run an external amp.I had this sub in my Civic before in my trunk and it hit pretty hard for just 1 10. I don't have a clue how the sub is wired inside. All I know is that it's a Dual 4 Ohm 10" Alpine Type S. The guy at the shop today said it was running at 4 ohm. That my new amp had too much power for that sub.He turned everything way down on the amp to get it to pound decent but still not like it was in my Civic.Does something have to do with it because it's so open in the back now? I just threw it in there till I find a decent sub set up. This is the first time with a SUV so I don't know what to get so that it pounds good. Isn't there different types of boxes to buy? ported or bandpass:dunno: So any help is appreiciated. Here's a pic of the box,amp and PAC wires

a single dual 4 ohm sub can only be wired at 8 ohms and 2 ohms. So the guy in the shop probably wired it at 2 ohms, do you know how to set gains urself ? just set the amp to run at 300 watts and double check the wiring on the sub.

check out that page it shows you how ur sub should be wired.

I pulled the sub out of the box and sure enough it was 2ohm. If i turned up the gain any on the amp the sub just went crazy. So I wired it for an 8ohm and turned the amp up and it works pretty good now. For a new box should i go ported or sealed?

U didint have to change it to 8 ohms all u had to do is turn the gain down.

go here for a tutorial on how to set ur gain

also a ported box will be louder than a sealed box but dont waist money on a prefab 1 it would be better\cheaper to just just make it urself.
