Noob needs help with full setup!!

Alright i just bought myself a nissan 300zx and i want to upgrade the entire sound system. To tell you the truth i have no idea what im looking for, i listen to mostly loud rock/screamo and loads of rap and hip hop. I want a system that pounds like hell but is also good to blast for rock and stuff. My budget is around 5 grand for everything. Im just looking for ideas on what brands i should be looking at.
Thanks alot

Dude, you need to reply to me and not e-mail the server. Add me to msn if you like, forbidden@telus.net and we can talk way easier there. The site owner just sent me a msn message telling me that you e-mailed a reply to him and not me.

db_guy 11-06-2008 07:48 PM

haha k didnt no it was done that way, ill just add your msn,
thanks

MR2NR 11-06-2008 07:49 PM

I am headed out to pick up the young one from tutoring, I will be back and sign on to msn and the site when I make it home, should be about 6:30 pst.

Do you have a baseball bat handy?

I think you may be needing it to repel the vendor swarm...:)

DISCLOSURE: If I were a vendor, I'd be on it like Herpes on Paris.

Skeedy 11-06-2008 09:15 PM

Hahahahah. Herpes on paris. Awesome.

And dude... with a 5000 dollar budget.... go out to all the local stores and listen. Just try to stay away from futureshop and stores like it. Listen to what they have to say, then say sweet, thanks for the help. I might be back again soon. then goto the next store. By the end of the day, you should be able to filter the salsemanship out and find the info and help that you are actually looking for.

Not sure if you needed a DVD player or a CD Player will suffice. Lets just say for that budget, if you shop smartly, you can get top of the line CD Player from likes of Alpine or Eclipse. Not sure of you need a set of front component speakers(6.5" or little bigger) and/or also the rear fill speaker set. So a two or four channel amp to drive them. I would like to to see around 150-200 wrms a side for the front, and if needed 50-100 wrms for the rear. The front components should be the most expensive part. Do not save money there, as this is your sound quality right there. Go for nice high end sound quality set. For bass you may want to get around 1500-2000 wrms amp from SPL arena, and get some SPL woofer/s depending in your trunk space, you may not have much. Seems like you may want to look into TFone subs Yuli has, and get a single 15" or 18" and port that sucker, and do not make that port too low, maybe around 40hz, ask the man himself. Or get some other similar idea sub. Get some decent RCA's and speaker wire. No need for top of the line, but do not get the cheap stuff. If you're not planning to enter SPL comps, then you may want to consider getting a capacitor(2 farad), that will help with dimming lights when hard bass hits. Very embarrassing. 0awg for power and ground wires, and you may want to upgrade some grounds around the battery and your alternator under the hood with same size wires.

I had to clean the Five Alive off my monitor...I have to meet you someday, you have an awesome, droll sense of humor.

Oh, you may want to look at a second battery near the amps as well, with the supporting cast included, alt, wires, etc. 2000 for sub amp and 450 for 4 channel, almost 2500 watts. Please have it wired up correctly. Car burns to ground. Highly embarrassing:)

sasha thanks for all the info, but where would i go get all this stuff, lmao, all i know is FS and bestbuy, and they only sell mtx and other shatty stuff.

MR2NR 11-07-2008 02:47 PM

The 300zx has some issues pertaining to the amount of current that can be generated from the tiny little alternator. What year is your 300?

BTW, I on the the west coast and respond at some rather odd hours. I work 4 nights a week until 4:00am pst. I am not at the shop yet today but am working from home for now.

There are many vendors here from Toronto or nearby. There are many other car audio shops in Toronto aside from FS or BB. The work they do at FS and BB is mediocre at best, plus the vendors in smaller car audio shops will give you a better deal anyways. I personally only use

http://www.number1sound.com/

They can help you with your loud set-up. They sell Focal speakers you may want to use inside your cabin. They have a front component set for $399 you may like, actually user KinOKin is selling a week old set he got from them a week ago. They have good deals on Fosgate Power Series amps, which are better than Punch Series BB is selling. The owner George is easy to talk to. Call him. Tell him Alex sent you, and you will get royal treatment. He'll set you up with something loud and clean, and install work and accessories are a million times better than BB or FS. Not to mention FS and BB have little knowledge.

db_guy 11-07-2008 05:21 PM

the 300zx is a 91

MR2NR 11-07-2008 06:35 PM

Are you thinking of a cd based system with Ipod integration or a dvd / lcd / navigation based system also with Ipod integration? Is your 300zx the 2+2 or is it only the 2 seater?

why do people continually bash FS or BB installers simply cause where they work. There are good and bad installers everywhere you go small mom and pop shops and big box stores as well. Saying all FS and BB installers suck is like saying all white people are hicks all black people are thieves and all hispanics are gangsters. There's bad apples everywhere, you have to judge each one on it's own merits. I myself prefer the health coverage, higher pay, and job security of working at a big box store. With that said i will say that the sales assosiates for the most part are lacking in actuall technical knowledge about what their selling, but we have to remeber that there sales guys if you really want to know ask the installer! As for the small shops giving better deals that's a 50/50 deal. It's the slow time of the year right now so sometimes you can get stuff for close to cost cause they need to make room for the christmas stuff.Sorry for the rant just my two cents worth.

Sasha 11-08-2008 01:53 AM

No biggie, I figured you'd jump in. I am not bashing FS BB installers, because I have not tried them all, but in my experience, the ones I dealt wiith were subpar, sales staff always sucked, as they had basic knowledge, and tried to BS me about stuff, cause they seemed to think I am a consumer with average knowledge. I am just trying to save him the possible bad experience, as I feel chances of it happening at BB or FS are much higher than the place I recommended for both service and price. Obviously, you work in one of those stores, and you know your stuff, but you're probably one in a million.

John__Taylor 11-08-2008 03:49 AM

In general, the BB store guy (not tech) does not give a rats ass whether he ever sees you again. For him, its the here and now that matters. Upsell, push the money making extended warranty, bamboozle the poor non tech savvy customer (there are many, many of them), lay a snowjob on the little old lady type thing.

Conversly, a small loacal shop may charge more (you can get burned there too) but it is in thier vested interest to BRING YOU BACK. Repeat business is the lifeblood of small stores, as well as word of mouth.

You have a good experience, you tell 5 people, you have a bad experience, you tell 15.

Small local places have to deal with a lot of crap also, dudes coming in to get information then not putting out a dime, customers playing the price match game of store vs store, etc.

Now, my sympathy is limited, after all, nobody is forcing them to open a small Mom & Pop right? But fair is fair.

Alway 3 sides to any story right?

that's why we tell ours to keep their mouths shut so they don't scare away real customers. That's also why I said talk to the installer instead of the sales guy cause we don't care how much you spend you tell me how much and i'll tell you what to get. As for the mtx stuff being bad, it's not bad stuff but you can get good stuff for cheaper. However around this time of year you can get some real cheap but decent quality stuff cause it's on clearance.
