Angry NUTS: Blown Subout

If you haven't been reading this topic

I slowly have been losing my bass since I tried to set my gain. Long story short I screwed up and now my deck has to suffer. (So frustrating).

I made sure everything was off; went into the crossover settings and set the front stage to flat then connected those RCAs to my sub.

And low and behold my bass appeared to be playing a lot louder again.

So tonight I am going to pull out the deck and run the sub off the rear preout (thankfully I only have fronts and the sub).

However I lose the ability to quickly adjust the bass level. (I suppose I could buy the US Amps remote gain ****). Anyone know where I can pick one of these up locally?

My question: The subout pre-out still sends a signal so it isn't complete dead. Can I get the deck repaired?

If it can be repaired how do I go about doing this?

IE: where do I take or send my deck. I bought it last fall could I send it back to Alpine? (I guess I should call the shop I bought it at first)

Anyone know how much it will cost me to repair this?

Or what the turn around time is for this type of thing?

I just remembered there is a fuse on the deck, if that was blown the whole deck would fail to operate correct?

Man all this hassle because I bumped the volume **** a little too loud when I was running that test tone.

It is an Alpine 9835.

I have tried all kinds of things. If I play a hip hop track for example there are some loud punchy parts but nothing that shakes my car anymore.

And if I am listening to a rock tune you don't really hear a bass guitar anymore just some kick drum stuff and a faint bass guitar.

When I switched to the RCA cable to the one connected to the front pre-out the sub was loud again and you could hear the bass guitar part again.

Turning up the Bass Control on the deck makes it a little louder but it is no where near as loud as it should be.

I have to EQ the front speakers down -12 dB to even hear the bass part... except for the occasional punchy part.

I would double check your crossover points and sub gain control in the deck!

.

yes sounds like you have the built in X overs on the deck or on the sub amp to high.. but then again even if you have the xover at 80hz you should still have bass in hip hop tracks........ try some thing ..... play some track any track and have the volume very low like round 5-10 and see if the sub moves.... i kinda had the same prob a few years back the sub i had was haft blown i know its weird but if the volume on the deck was low the sub would not move even if i cranked the gain on the amp but if i turn the gain down and turned the deck up almost full bore then pushed on the cone of the sub it would work for a bit then when the bass stopped and started again i would have to "push start" the sub.... but yea i would start off by checking all the xover settings on the amp and on the deck.

I'll give that a shot

I had the deck around 12 last night and I could hear the bass part when I was standing at the trunk

But when I am driving the fonts + road noise cancels out the sub except for some tracks that have a lot of bass.

But your general bass guitar stuff is almost inaudible when driving.

Is there any way to test the RCA's with a DMM or anything?

I hooked the sub up to the front RCAs and turned off the EQ and everything played as expected.

I'll try setting the Subout to Flat and see if it plays any different.

I thought for a bit that perhaps I had a high-pass filter on so it was only feeding higher pitches to the sub. But then I thought about that for a second and double checked the manual and the sub-out is a Low pass filter only.

Ok

I tried setting my front pre-out to flat again and connecting it to the sub and this time I didn't notice any change in the volume the sub was performing at.

Perhaps the problem is with the sub.

It seems to play loud(er) when the system has been off for a few hours and then tappers off back to no where near what it was when I first installed teh sub.

When the sub was brand new it would rattle my whole car now the road noise can drown it out at times.
