Oem audio system test
 

anyone know of a shop that can test an oem system's frequency response etc...directly from the speaker leads? I'm just thinking if the oem system tests pretty good then there's no need to get an aftermarket adaptor/eq like a cleansweep etc...and no, an aftermarket deck is not an option. Maybe a guy like Dave Mckinnon or some other test engineer or electronics tech with a scope should be able to i'm thinking...and probably a lot cheaper than getting a clean sweep of 360 etc..

Anyone with a O-scope can do a sweep and tell you what's up.. I've got a Velleman HPS40 which is pretty sweet and it's little brother the HPS10 can be had for around $150 IIRC.

If you've got a laptop and some time to spend setting up and calibrating a test rig speakerwork shop will do what you want using your computer's soundcard and the program is free..

My Coustic RTA has an RCA input on it. Easy. I believe the AC RTA's have either an RCA or 1/4" jack input on them too.

Ya you can do it on a Audiocontrol too, just need to put a voltage divider inline as it doesn't do high-voltage in..

I guess one should chime in that a meter or O'scope will only let you know the relative level of different frequencies. It cannot tell you how it sounds though.

Richard Clark used to do a demo where he took compressed air and by orienting the nozzle just right across a microphone he could make an RTA show a reasonably flat curve. Of course it still sounded like compressed air... :ohwell:
