old amps

I have 6 old soundstream amps,2 D200's,2 D100's 2Class A 50's,what are the advantages or disadvantages of using this over new amps?I'm not sfter SPL.

The main disadvantage is going to be their power output. The driver selection that was around when these amps were produced is far different than todays inefficient, power-hungry selection of quality drivers.

There's still some great performer's to choose from but the selection with your power available is going to be reduced significantly.

The only disadvantage I see is lack is lack of Xovers on the D's.

Since when is 50x2 + 240x1 (1 D100 + 1 D200) not enough power?

Long answer: A list I could easily spend half a day on including comp sets that 50watts a side wouldn't do justice for and a second list of high-end subs that wouldn't achieve near their designed performance on a mere 240watts.

Short answer: Since about 1995

^ lol, I totally agree. Since power got cheap, speakers have become inefficient. :ohwell:

I also have a couple of audio control EQL equalizers and a Soundstream DX3 X-over.If I bridge the D200's I get 240 per 10" sub,the D100"S for 4 mids and the class A 50's for 4 tweeters.I had these amps in an 89 bird for 16 years. It was competative in the early 90's.

I disagree:) I think since power got cheap people think they need so much.

Where are your crossover points going to be? I see a rather large hole in your midbass frequency range unless you plan on a really high crossover point for your 10's (not recommended).

There are no disadvantage really.. other then looking a bit plain when compared to amps nowadays. those are great sounding amps, specially the Class A 50s.

I was going to try 100hz .Will be using 6.5's in the rear and 5.25's in the front. The car is an FJ Cruiser. Two Infinity 10.1 one over each wheel well,I'm fighting for box volume, using fibreglass I can get about 1.15 cu ft per 10
