Old School Cars?

has anybody here done an install on any old cars? i may be picking up a sweet 1979 Lincoln Cont.Coupe this week. now i want to know if i will be able to install my system in it. are there mounting kits for cars this old or will i have to fabricate my own? everything will be running off my amps so really i will only need to wire the deck for power and ant. right? ok, any help would be much appreciated. thanks!

i have .you shoud be able to get a kit for it. if not you just got to do what i did is cut out where the old radio went. so it would fit a sleeve.

what about a harness? or will i have to find my own power supply?

uhmm, in an older vehicle i would recommend you run a new power line into your fuse box and to your new deck, some of those old cars have some crappy wiring, and if your looking to have a fair amount of power running through everything heck you might as well start it out doing it right, right?

'79 Lincoln? I'd also recommend a sh!tload of dynomat, or b-quiet if there are subs going into this install, those older full size cars really love to rattle like a *****!

I'm not so sure you'll be able to find a kit for a car that old...if you can't, like it has already been suggested, just cut out where the stock radio was so a sleeve will fit in. That's what I had to do in my '74 Nova. You might be able to get a harness for it, but you'd probably be better off running in a new power line straight off the battery anyway as the wiring in those older cars isn't always so grand.

Install it in the glovebox...i did that in my 76 impala...ran new wiring...everything worked sweet...
just a lil inconvenient...
another cool idea someone here gave me was to hack out the innards of my stock twin-shaft and jerry-rig the remote sensor from the new deck into it, so that the remote would work....but that is a tall order, i guess
also, install everything and see how much rattlin & stuff you get before you dynamat/brown bread it...
in both my 76 impala and my 85 cutlass the body panels are/were heavy enough that there was little to no rattling....
in the cutlass, my four tens only rattle the trunk a lil at two-thirds volume....
the lincoln might also have enough room directly behind the rear seat so that, like my impala, your subs wont even be in the trunk...I had two twelves in there, and a false wall that fit entirely in the spare tire compartment...
just my experiences....hope it helps

oh, also,
I dunno if it applies in your situation, but apparently with GM's older radios there is a metal plate behind them which must be cut to fit the newer DIN decks, depth wise
just FYI, but you probably knew that already
