Question Old school kicker solobaric s12d box ?

I just bought a BNIB never powered up Kicker s12d 2 ohm solobaric sub.
Can't wait to get it !

Should I use a 1.1 cu/ft sealed box ? Or the recomended 0.88 cu/ft ? Im gonna be throwing 920 watts @ 2ohm mono from a Zapco Z300 C2.

Pics of said sub !

Cool man, I used to run 2 of the 8" in high school. Very sturdy subs.

a. I assume that you're not going to have the gains up very much as that sub will be toast with anything more than 500rms

b. I'd go with something around 1 cubic foot sealed.

Well you can always build the box a little larger and adjust down if needed by placing styrofoam blocks inside...when i have the space i usually do that and experiment until i'm happy with the sound. It's always harder to add volume! and as Jalat said...go easy on the volume **** if you're using that kind of power...those are rated for 300 watts rms I think.

They say the bigger the box is built (within reason) the less watts you need.
Since I'll have about 900 watts on tap, should I just build the recommended 0.88 cu/ft ?
Or will the sub sound deeper/better with a slightly larger box ?
Btw the sub can handle 600 watts.

Bigger box= more efficient, deeper bass, and lower power handling.
Smaller box= well the opposite!
Since you have more than enough power, you have your choice, so somewhere in the middle will give you the best of both worlds...1cube as was suggested will work well.

If it's sealed...build it yourself...you can even get home depot or rona to pre cut the 3/4 mdf for you. You need a box that's 1 cube interior volume which is 12x12x12 or 13.5 x 13.5 x 13.5 outside, so you need 6 pieces of mdf, two (13.5x13.5), two (13.5x12), and two (12x12). Don't worry about driver displacement as it's about .08 cubes, so you'll still be at .92 cubes after that, and it will simplify your design. Get some glue, screws, and caulking (or use the glue like i do). Put it together, let it dry, seal it, and then paint, cover, or leave it as is. Cut your 11" hole for your speaker, drill a small hole for your speaker wire (forget terminal caps), run your wire and then seal the hole with caulking, mount your speaker using a gasket or rope caulk, hook it up and enjoy.

Otherwise, Jalat builds good boxes from what I've seen and heard, so pm him.
