Hi guys. This is going in my 72 Maverick project so I dont have to hack up the factory bezel. Deck works fine but I need help with the wiring.

Has fader and balance yet the speaker wires are as follows.
Grey
Grey with Black
Green
Green with black

Its a nice old vintage deck that suits the car and was working with 4 speakers. I took it out during the resto and didnt pay attention to the speaker wiring. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx Darren.

Usually the speaker wires with the black stripe goes to the negative terminal on the speaker. Regardless of the way you hook it up, you will get sound. The question is whether the speaker is wired in phase or not.

I can't tell you which is the left or right but you'll have to try it one way and use the balance control to verify whether its wired correctly.

I think his problem is he appears to only have 2 channels of speaker outputs, is that what ur saying OP?

Thats the issue. How does the radio have balance and fader but only 4 speaker wires. Are they the 4 positive feeds then the speakers all go to a common ground??
Funny part is I'm a Chrysler dealer tech with 20 years that does all our problem cars yet I dont remember how to wire an old cassette deck.:dunno:LOL.
I send all our audio issues down the road to Audible Difference. Great people. Just changed owners though and I dont know the new owner.

Most of you guys likely werent born when this radio came out. Need some old school help for an old school radio.:)

I can pm but not post from my turdberry. The guy might have 1 of 2 things going on.
1) Verify that the trim is the correct one for the deck. If it is then it may be common to all the units and it could have only 2 outputs. Grey will be right, green will be left.
2) The deck could be common ground and all 4 lines will be +, stripes should be rears + and solid color front + (or vice versa). Ground the - lead of the speaker in this case to complete the circuit. ONLY if it is a common ground system.

My hunch says it is as I do not recognize the model number and that should make it pre 1988 and they were indeed using common ground in that era.

Thanks. The trim matches perfect and the radio functions all match the trim. Balance/fader/tone/memory etc. Its an oldie thats for sure. I'll try the speaker with a common ground and see what happens. Thanks.

This is cool.....my first car was a 73 Mav sedan I used for pizza delivery, I don't see many still running around southern Ontario......:smilie_da

The factory radio is a common ground, the old speakers should each have 1 wire on a very short lead to chassis.....if the fader and balance are working you can verify correct locations from the deck.....:smokin:
