Older Pioneer Premier amps - PRS-X
Looking at some of the older Pioneer Premier amps, like the PRS-X340.
Sounds like they were fairly underrated and built pretty solidly. Anyone use these before? Any opinions on them? They seem to be rated for use from 1-8 ohms, anyone know if they will stand up to 2 ohm mono use? 37.5 watts x4 amp, and it has three 30 amp fuses.....

eh... seems to me my buddy still owes me $40 on one of those amps... lol...
Yea man, whatever model I had (couple 30A fuses) said '1ohm stable' on the back... and as far as I know its still kicking the **** out of two 4ohm cerwin vega subs as I type this.....

These amps were definitely "over-built" but Pioneer has never recommended a two ohm mono load for anything but their mono amplifiers.
I had a client with a Ferrari that installed two PRS-X720 (one running stereo to an Illusion Audio 6-1/2" component set & the other bridged to a two ohm mono load to a 10" Boston Acoustics subwoofer). The shop where I worked at that time wasn't a Pioneer dealer but the client had heard such great things about these amplifiers that he had to have them, so I sourced them from another shop I had a relationship with. See what else the system entailed here:

This was hands down the most impressive sounding Ferrari I had ever had the pleasure of being involved with & since a good friend of mine was the Sales Manager of Brian Jessel Ferrari for many years, I had worked with my fair share.
These amplifiers were built "overspec" & last year they did the same thing with the PRS Class-D mono amplifiers. I hope one day soon Pioneer can bring Class-AB product like this back to market.
