One 10" or two 10"s
 

So here's the skinny:

I recently purchased a lot of subwoofers off of e-bay for a good deal. Now I'm trying what set-up will give me more bump for my buck, and still sound good.

Amp: 300 WRMS x 2 @ 2 ohm; 500WRMS x 1 @ 4 ohm bridged

The single sub I have is an MTX TC 710: 4 ohm SVC so it would get 500WRMS
The pair of subs I have are Pioneer TS-W257D4: 4 ohm DVC, so each sub would get 300WRMS at 2 ohm stereo.

The MTX is a much higher quality sub; but with 2 pioneers I could get 100WRMS more, and I would get twice the cone area.

Also, I was planning on building an ABC for the 2 pioneers. But if I were to do a single, I would simply port it.

So what would you do? Which sub setup would you install?

I'm looking for simple opinions before I start to build a box (because the ABC box will need to be partially build in the car).

If the ABC has to be done in the trunk, will it be worth the extra hassle over porting them instead? Would there be that much of a difference in output?

There's no replacement for displacement.....the 2 drivers in a ported box should outdo the 1....:dunno:

I know you have been wanting to do a bandpass for a while here but the truth is you'll probably be better off just building a ported for the two tens and save yourself some hassle - your ears will agree, trust me... you MAY get more output from the bandpass but probably not the sound your looking for.

^^ i was just gonna say the same thing about goin with the 2 tens. just comin from a guy who has a minivan, i keep thinking i need more air displacement from more cone area from either a big sub (like the 15" L5 im about to get installed), or from two that can share the power and work together. get a proper ported box and it will pound.

haha well alright then. in its simplest view.. more air being moved.. more bass to me (still on the same page?). i started out with one pioneer then two alpines and specifically for my application its awesome... i still feel the bass when i roll down the high way with the windows open.

what car is this going into btw? and you live in welland? i go to uni at brock, do you by any chance?

p.s. danyman: i really want to see your van but i dont even know where Iroquois, is if thats bad :(

Iroquois Falls is far enough north you probably don't want to drive up there till the snow clears.....which IIRC usually happens by June....:laugh:

Big Red, Here's why I would build part of the ABC in the trunk:
Small car - Toyota Tercel
3 cubic foot box: After dirver and port displacements it will be about 3.3 cu. ft. It will be
33" wide (max width between wheel wells 34")
15" high (Max height to rear deck 15.5"
so the depth will need to be roughly 15" deep using 3/4" MDF.

That box won't fit through the opening of the trunk as my trunk is too narrow between the tail lights. So I was planning on building the 2/3 sub chamber and the 1/3 vent chamber separately. I would have the vented chamber completely sealed up with the port ready to be inserted into the sub chamber.

I would build the sub chamber completely as well, then cut a whole in the end panel so there is a 2" ledge that I would be able to screw through to anchor the and port chamber together. This way, once the glue is dry, I could go in and caulk the connection too to ensure air tightness.

So that is why I would build an ABC in the trunk. Going ported wouldn't be any easier, unless I made one box per sub.

I had the same thoughts about 2 tens being more bang; I just wasn't sure if it was wise to give up one mid-level sub for two entry level subs. (The MTX retails for $200 + while the pioneers retail for $110 - not that price is everything, but it can indicate quality of build)

1997 Toyota Tercel - actual trunk space is only 9.3 cubic feet . . . maybe I'll get another amp so I can power 2 more subs and just seal off the trunk as IB . . . 2.3 cubes per driver.

ohh jordy. its not that bad up here for snow. yes we have more you guy doing there prob but its not that bad. except for today. blowing snow and lots of wind -30 heheheh
