^^and that's the best thing you did...letting others know about creeps out there is the only way to protect against them. I know you like the old stuff and fortunately places like ebay are around to find that stuff, before it was only a dream to find that special piece of equipment that you always wanted. Hopefully, you can recover some or part of your money, and I'm sure you've learned a few things that may help you avoid problems in the future, but there is always a risk....good luck!

Veeman, you recommended not using money orders, but they are quite a bit safer than many other methods.

If you send a money order and the seller defrauds you, it becomes an issue of mail fraud.
Almost as importantly, with mail you have SOME form of address, even if it is only a post office box. I personally will NOT send money of any kind to a post office box, it needs to be a residential address, or a postal outlet where they will check ID before releasing the money order.

Mail fraud is something that no reasonably seasoned scammer will let himself get tied up in, that there is jail time.

Plus, have you read about all the paypal problems out there? I use it, but damn am I leery. I'm more afraid of getting burnt by paypal than some ebay seller.

I got screwed on Ebay too. It was a similar transaction. Did not get my amp either. Power seller hifisoundconnection. He has a lot of positive feedback, and once in a while he screws people, because he can afford it. Read his feedback.

Gosh which one?
here is today's e-mail trail between him and I.

The below are in response to my e-mail stating that he has listed the amp he sold me and ripped me off.
I send him this e-mail today
Dear jefferson2166,

I can't believe you listed this amp again after selling this to me and then screwing me out of my money.
You should really refund my money or ship me the amp.
You should do the honerable thing and refund my money.

Here are his responses : Lies, denial and truly he is off his meds.

" what???? sorry guy i have no idea what you are talking about i will post pics of 4 of these amps i have on top of that i have got 2, 275.1 and 2,175.2 and a 60.4 so do me a favor and leave me alone honorable you bid on my item that i didnt ship out of the U>S then left me negative is that the honor you speak of you and i have no relationship buisness/ebay or otherwise do not bid on my items under any of your names as they are already restricted from my auction and again i donot have any idea what you are talking about

- jefferson2166

Then I send him another e-mail

Dear jefferson2166,

Haha,
man you must have forgotten to take you meds today.
I'm sure I'm burned into your brain (if you have one)that is!
I can't believe you!
Don't worry one day you will get back what you did to me. What comes around goes around.
You know exactly what I'm talking about.

His reply:

Dear zedcollector,

oh i know i know about the feedback you left me and that will definitely come back around on you for sure well i see it has a few times. if i "burned" you why would you try to buy from me? unless you tried to leave me negative. and that is what you did period. that was B.S be done with it guy i wanted that 120.4 you have listed 4 times but i have a bad record with you so i stayed away so do me a favor and stay away from me also look you guys leave bullshit stuff on whatever page it is in ebay that you can do that then expect me to let you bid on my stuff forget it. whats done is done. you had your chance guy you know whats up you left me bad feedback for another deal then when the chips fell in my favor you got mad if you wouldnt have jumped the gun you would have gotten what you deserved but instead you bid and won an auction after it said US only because i had a "problem" shipping to canada. then when i wouldnt ship to you you left me neg.well then the problem i had shipping to canada got resolved and now you think i owe you something you need to take your meds guy i know exactly what went down but i dont know what you are talking about when you say i owe you something or that you think in any way shape or form that this amp was yours or is owed to you no i dont know what you are talking about. but this will be the last email i feel will be nessasary so please stop contacting me

- jefferson2166

Anyway what a bunch of drama.
If anyone even thinks of buying from this looser....DON'T!!!!!

I love the old school stuff and so does Leo (Cutra). The fact that people say you shouldn't buy from eBay is not entirely fair as both myself and Leo have sold on eBay (leo much much more than myself I believe) and for 99% of the amps we like, there is no other location to find them.

The fact of the matter is that this piece of screwed him and worked the system. All that does is educate people who do use eBay. Unfortunately it had to cost someone a few hundred bucks this time but he was nice enough to describe the scam to us in a kind enough way so as to help US not get screwed as well.

Let's not get our enthusiasm for the older stuff confused with dealer loyalty. It's a case where you really like something and there's only one place to find it so you take a marginally calculated risk unfortunately.

Point in case... I've been looking for Rodek "E" series amps for over a year!!! No 2150s, no 2300's 4100's or anything else for that matter. I sure would find it hard not to buy one on Ebay if it ever did come up for sale...

So... I'm starting to think that we should get the mailed to his door COD now in a $500 box for $240 COD.
I got a few oldschool rodeks I believe E series one of which is a 2150 and two ther smaller ones I think 275? and 235? (plain aluminum finned amp chassis they are in storage so not 100 percent if ya give me a link to what you want I will confirm if its what I got)

As for the ebay sour deal
Theres thousands of people gettin screwed there every day just remeber the old sayin "theres a sucker born every minute" cross your T's and dot your I's guys and ya wont get screwed sorry to hear it happened to ya.
I also agree with dealer loyalty I've been in this industry as an installer over over 11 years now and the clients of mine that have stayed with me always get the best of deals and if they send me more clients they get even better deals. But first time buyin somethin if ya want good service ya gotta ante up a bit and your gonna pay close to msrp and the only break your gonna get on labour is if ya pay cash and bring me beer cold beer
Bottom line good service costs time and time is money we got a shops tools guys and product to cover

From what I remember of using money orders in the states, you they treat them more like cheques than travellers cheques, which means the bank will usually require them to clear before releasing funds.
Which means that the seller needs a bank account, which means they are traceable.

To file a claim with USPS, you would have to contact them, but I believe that their policy is that anything which is sent by USPS becomes their responsibility to see safely to its destination.
If it is delivered and cashed, then declared as non-recieved then it becomes mail fraud (among other things) and the USPS will usually launch an investigation to see why it was declared as non delivered.

The one time I had an issue with someone screwing me for a money order, I called USPS and gave them the particulars. Three days later I was called back and recieved the cryptic message "Your money will be returned."
Two days later I had a money order back in my hands, express shipped.

I would suggest asking USPS and Canada post what type of guarantees they have on their mail, and money orders in particular.
Things may have changed in the last few years, but they used to take it pretty seriously.

well from talking to canadapost, if a m.o. was lost, they can issue you a new one since it wasnt cashed. but if it was cashed and no item was received, then i think you are out of luck like i was. i mean, if it was cashed and cleard, i cant see canadapost giving money back to the sender of the m.o, but i wish they had in my case

legally, thats a different story. contactin authorities might help to scare them a ittle at least
