Only for the pros.
HI , I have a kicker kx600.4 , I have a speaker with a 4 ohm inpedance, when I connect it to the amp the load drops to barely 1 ohm. Why is that? When I leave the speaker on the amp, the amp goes into protection when 3/4 volume reached. All other channels are good. They all still give 4 ohms when connected to the amp...?

when you measure the ohm load is it at the speaker terminals or the end of the wire at the amp but not connected to the amp yet?
|
blown coil????

I bet you've got a shorted coil, but there is a tiny gap that the low voltage on your multimeter can't jump, but your amp gets across it.
|
does it do this on your other amp channels or on a different amp?
|
no it doesn't , I hope i'll test to make sure. You think the problem might be the speakers? i'd rather have the speakers as a problem then the amp. All other channels on the amp works fine but when i play with the channel who's load drops to 1 ohm when connected to a speaker, the amp goes into protection.

i think it mite be the wire to the speaker too
try removeing the speaker then go to your amp hold the speaker in your hand amd wirer it up to the amp how do you have the speaker to the wire ? |

the reason you measure lower at the amplifier is because of the speaker impedance and the amplifier have impedence built in, you need to unhook speaker from amp to measure correctly...if you have 4 ohms at the end of wire at amp your good to go.
If it cuts out at 3/4 volume your amp gain is to high or your speakers are bottoming out due to to much low frequencies going threw it. Garett |
