Hey there, am running the RF 500BD amp and pushing 2 JL 12W3V2 @ 2 ohms (in a sealed box). basically, this amp has this punch boost control thing. am just wondering what the consensus is using these boosts rather than just turning up the gain - i don't get it. Like, either i turn up the gain and use less of the punch boost - or less gain and more boost. I've played around with it a few times but don't really noticed a difference. Any ideas...comments?

increasing the gain mean that your amplifier will need less input voltage to play as loud, or in the end, make full power.
bass boost is centered at a certain frequency, boosting the response in that area. It is really helpful to screw the respons and introduce clipping

If it 's the same as the power series amp controller i've got, it can change level and the frequency at which the boost is applied to from 1-18db's and 35hz-70hz. To fine tune the output to your vehicles acoustics.

ok, so i did a little more research...
to properly tune the amp/gain, i want to set my deck to flat, and turn off all EQ. What about the subwoofer level - if i set that to 0, then no power to the sub.
my deck, JVC KD-SH1000, has a digital loudness setting, variable EQ and a sub level from 0 to 12. too many variables! ha...a little confused as to how to do it the proper way - or any way for that matter.
