I just want to know what you experienced guys think of this.

I drive a 1990 4Runner.

In my dash I was thinking of doing Infinity 3-1/2" 2-ways (not sure the exact model yet, gotta check around at stores).

In my front doors, I was thinking of doing a Infinity 6-1/2" component set.

I have 2 10" JL 10W0-4's in a sealed box behind the rear seats.

All of these speakers will be powered by my MTX Blue Thunder PRO400X5 amp. Its a 5 Channel amp, and can be seen here: http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/archive/pro400x5.cfm

I am planning on getting a new deck hopefully soon (alpine cda-9835 or 9833), and might power the dash speakers from the deck at that point, but not sure.

I am thinking of maybe putting another set of 6.5" speakers in the back (back doors, or behind the rear seats) and crossing the high-end out of them as to not bring my sound stage from the front.

I dont know how I would power everything at that point, but that doesnt matter. Just imagine everything to be powered good.


What do you think of this setup? Any opinions?

I do plan on in the future upgrading amp(s)/subs but that might not be for a while.

why would you want to have that many speakers up front especially when you are going to run a 9833/35. i would say screw the 3.5"s and just get a really nice component set. turn 3way mode on the deck and get the components installed really nice like up front. that would be the best way to go. k.i.s.s. dont over complicate stuff with too much gear thats unnescessary. but thats just my 2cents.

Well, the dash speakers are already there, and wired to the amp. They are stock andone is blown... and cuts in and out LOL

So I just figured I would replace them with some new ones.

Im not sure what you mean by 3way mode.... Im a newbie, so sorry :D

I would actually like just to have those dash speakers for high-end, then use JUST a 6.5" driver in the door... but it seems most if not all 6.5" speakers are 2/3-ways or part of a component set.


Does the rest of my idea sounds okay though ?

A component system would sound BEST just on its own. There are no "quality" 3 1/2" drivers out there, no matter which compnay makes them. No compnay dumps it time into engineering a killer 3 1/2.
Now if you reallly want to go top notch, you could get a 3- way component speaker system, with a 1" tweeter, 4" mid range, and 6.5" mid-woofer - but you'll be looking at $700 + for something like that.

I agree with Merlin, a simple 6.5" mid woofer, tweeter component system will sound best.

I understand 3 way to mean - one pair of tweeters, one pair of midwoofers, and one (pair) of sub(s). Nice an simple and sounds great.

You'll see lots of flashy install pics on the net where guys use multiple drivers (which aren't designed as a system, or by installing two component systems) but all it is, is flashy looking. There is no sound improvement, only sound degradation from "smearing" between drivers.
Keep it simple.

You'll get much better high end from a simple 1" component system tweeter.

I think 3.5s playing mid/high in the dash with 6.5" midbass in the door could work out well... [img]smile.gif[/img]

pathfinders usually have 4 inch

Forget the dash and get either a high end co-ax for the doors or a good component(2 way) all installed in the doors. Don't dissmiss the co-ax set up, they can sound damn good if you get good a good brand like focal, jbl power, alpine r-series or mb quart and many others. I have focals and they rock and it's a simple install.Whatever you do, don't skimp on the quality as these will be your primary mid/high combo, and most of your systems quality will come from these. Above all else have fun. later...

^ midrange/highs in the dash should stage better then they would in the doors if you ask me... of course that depends on where they actually are... If they are the type of dash speaker that fires into the window, you might want to do something else...


I agree coax can sound good.. but it depends more on install then it does brand... IMO...
