Orion Concept 97.1 - FOR PPL IN THE KNOW ONLY please

I don't know how many people on here even know Orion used to be a world-class company prior to the DEI buyout, but for those that do what would be a realistic price you'd pay for a Concept 97.1 4 channel amp?

I'm talking you want to add it to your system, money is an option as it is outdated technology and is more a piece of nostalgia than state-of-the-art equipment. I've got a '98 LS400 and I want to put in a system that in 1998 would have been the king of it's day. I've already got 2 6s HCCA component sets, 2 hcca 275G4's, 2 new 12" HCCA's, a new in box Concept 97.2 digital 30 band EQ, and a PPI PC4400.2 4channel but thinking about a Concept 97.1 4 channel and dump the PPI for a complete Orion system.

There is a guy i'm in contact with that wants $575USD for a 97.1, but it is used and some of the clips to hold on the pop-top are missing. It is in working condition. Does this seem like a somewhat hefty price to you too?

Mmmm....old Orion....hehehe

That's the problem with nostaslgia.....it's expensive.....:stroke:

When I bought all my 'old school' Orion, I payed a pretty penny for it. The last time I saw a complete set of the Concept pieces (ie. 97 1, 97 2 and 97 3) sell on ebay they went for around $1,000USD. They were in mint condition, but they had to be shipped back to the US from somewhere in Asia.

I wouldn't even consider selling my 97 3 for less than $1K now if that helps....:dunno:

HTH

Yeah, I don't need a 97-3 though. THat is one huge amp and I just need a 4ch orion to match my system... and that leaves me with 425HCCA (everything else is hcca or concept) and the 97.1. I saw that set on ebay :smilie_daa few months back. I search for orion stuff everyday just cuz if it's a good deal i'm buyin it. But what i'm saying is that that was a full Concept set... it had a 97.1 4ch, 97.2 eq, and a 97.3 amp. That went for yeah, around 1k. So that's what i'm trying to base my price off of, I just paid this guy $360 (which I thought was a good deal) for a Brand New old stock 97.2. If I am spending another $600 on a 97.1 it would be more than market value I think, as that would leave ~$40 for a 97.3 if I were comparing solely to that ebay auction.

I don't know, nostalgia is very expensive, and I'm ok with that. i just think this guy wants to rape me cuz I had discussed with him my 2 year quest in finding the perfect HCCA and concept pieces for my lexus - and now he thinks i'm made of money. I'm in debt in a major way cuz when I find a nice audio piece I can't let it go - put it on the card.

Well yeah that's what i'm thinking. let me know man

you've got "the beast" too right? i think i saw you talking about that here awhile ago. So when you gonna get a 2100HCCA? that would complete the set ;)

Damn... 97.3, XTR2250, 2100HCCA I'd be all about it. :worshippy

That's the problem with nostalgic items; they're only worth what someone wants to pay for them.
IMO $575USD for what sounds like a rather "used" 97.1 is too high. If you really want a Concept piece their aren't as many out there as the identical HCCA150 (came out in the full HCCA lineup the following year) and the HCCA425 (both of which are much more plentiful and pop up on Ebay and the forums fairly frequently and go for much less than $575USD in nice condition).

I say get two more 275G4's and use them for your comps. Four 275G4's side to side across the trunk would look pretty nice with a 97.2 in there also. You can always polish the 275's to match the Concept piece also if they aren't already the polished one's.

Nope, no "beast" here....although I did see an HCCA2100 in one of the Cash Converter stores for $600 a while ago that almost came home under 1 arm....:smilie_da

I have 2 of the 2150SX amps running my front doors in my work truck....450wrms per door seems to be enough for me....for now.....

If you decide to do your trunk with 4 HCCA's and a 97.2.....don't forget to take a few pics so the rest of us "nostalgia buffs" can get some very cool wallpaper......:smilie_da

A guy around here named Jimmy Potestio(sp) did a Monte Carlo a few years ago with a trunk full of HCCA amps, neon and a small pool table.....quite the visual treat....

4 275G4's

ahhh, you guy keep getting me into these "sweating" situations. I've never thought of running 4 275's, but maybe. I am a specialized powdercoater right now, despite my degree in electronics and the car audio certification. I hate fixing ppl's tv's - so electronics is out of the question and around here there is less money in car audio than my powdercoating so audio is my hobby. The only shop in town is world renound "extreme audio" with kurt schere being 3 time (maybe 4) world champion SQ in his 240SX, Orion sponsored until DEI bought it, and now PG. His mom is my boss now with the powdercoating, and she authorized me to powdercoat anything I want. I was thinking about doing my heatsinks, but destroying the red/silver HCCA colors will make me cry  NEED: opinions on powdercoating my HCCA amps...............

Plus buying two more 275's will almost defeat the purpose of saving money :)

Hmmm, you guys sure do run a hard bargain. Maybe I'll do 2 250G4's... I plan on having the subwoofer enclosure mounted above 2 motorized drawers that will be air cooled and hold the amps, so that when my wife packs the trunk with stuff it won't overheat my amps, she can just hit the button and make it all disappear. DON'T ANYONE STEAL MY IDEA FIRST. I've got a PPI pc4400.2 that could (and did) run my comps real well, but I want to keep it strickly orion.

UUUGGGHHHH!!! I don't know, i really want this concept amp, but I don't want to get ripped on it.

OH also, anyone wants a concept 97.2 EQ there is one on ebay right now for like $150USD with no one bidding on it, got about a day left... i just paid $360 for mine from the guy that's trying to sell me the 97.1 for 575. Great deal IMO, just in case anyone was wanting something like this. I'd buy it, but the wife would for sure kill me this time.

OK - this thread can be closed down now... I picked up a 425HCCA so gone is the problem of deciding on 2 225G4's (was thinkin about it) or concept 97.1

Gotta dig up this thread, since I'm a new member I can't post in the f/s section. But I've got an Orion concept 97 2 (mint condition) that I'm selling, I was thinking $300 + half shipping in the US (lower 48) & $300 + shipping to Canada. Anyone that needs references (got plenty on a number of forums) please don't hesitate to ask. Feel free to contact me via e-mail: (25189123@comcast.net) Here are pictures:
