To overpower one sub, or to underpower two?

Hey guys, I need to do a bit of work on these subs of mine. it's a pair, one JBL and an MTX thunder 6000. Different subs, but with same ratings and OHMS, 250RMS @ 4 ohms. I had been running them low, but with weak wires and settings all messed up. They were just remnants of old stuff i had but didn't really need. I have a couple good but old school amps.

I have two choices, either I can run both at 175 watts each, or one at 300 watts. With your experience, which do you believe would provide better sound overall for this newbie here

And yes, I'm aware of the whole destroying your subs from over gaining underpowered amps. Won't happen, I'm more towards sound quality than power.
