parking lot deals..
 
I am putting 2gether the last pieces of stuff for my build tomory.I am heading to a parking lot to scoop some comps..i dont want to give them the 9volt battery test to make sure they work so i dont F@#$ em,any ideas how to test them safely.:dunno:

You can use a lower voltage battery if you're afraid of damage. Push down lightly on the cone and listen and feel for scratchiness, this can indicate voice coil problems or misalignment. Inspect the surround for tears or repairs, look carefully at the edges of the spider and surround for loose glue etc...can indicate poor construction or repair. Other than that, not much else you can do with used gear.

Use a AA battery instead to pop test the speaker, much lower voltage.

Bring something that plays music...

That could be your current stereo if it is in operation (just extend a rear speaker lead) or a portable boom-box with speaker connections on it.

Popping it will only tell you the coil is intact.

Go to canadian tire and buy yourself a $20 DMM... You will have and use it forever... No car audio enthusiast or install should be without one.
