People Who Touch Their Subs Often

Whenever I'm talking to people about their equipment and then they take me to their vehicle to see it, they're always touching the sub right away and more less pushing it in to show it flex.

WHY???

Why would someone do that?

I hate touching my sub and do it very limitedly. I know the build of it can handle it, but it's seriously a pet peeve of mine.

I don't know ... I know a lot of you guys are "Hands-On" and are probably going to disagree with this one, but I just find it strange to pop the trunk and start ramming on the middle cone ...
It's like alright, alright ... I get the point!

Feel better now?

Here's the deal. If the sub can take so much vibration, movements, and pounding, what's stroking/tapping going to do to it?

DaVibe 02-26-2009 10:31 AM

I feel a little better ...

No but seriously, it's one of these "Habits" I see a lot of people do ... it's just so foreign to me ...
Put it this way, I wouldn't touch my stereo equipment in my household (begin tapping on it) so I'm pretty much the same way with my automotive equipment.
Yes, obviously there's a bit of a difference but still, drives me nuts.

"Yo, check out my sub" and then they start banging on it ...

I usually only knock on the excursion and lightly tap on the cone to see how solid it was. Doesn't tell me much, I know that, but yeah, it's a habit lol it's not a bad habit that'd cause any damage per se....OTOH, I hate people who change lanes without signaling. That's wrong, and would actually cause some damage/accident.

i kinda always wondered the same.

but i have the opposite habbit. when a sub is out of the box, i tend to push the cone up from underneath as far as it can go and see how much the spiders can stretch.

I see it too at work and chuckle because I have an answer. My GF is an ECE and she explained this behavior to me. When they see a kid always touching stuff like that it is a warning sign that they are autistic! This behavior is a precurser for autism! They have the intense desire to touch things(especailly subs) and cannot control themselves. They have a mental disorder and as such cannot be held responsible for they're actions!

Okay, that probably explains a lot.

Next time somebody does it, I'll tell they're showing signs of their autism :)

This has been a problem for years......Some ppls kids???
I used to ask how the resonant freq feels.
and besides if you don't push from the center of the driver you can actually damage it.

I feel better now too.....

i molest my subs when they play. LMAO nah but seriously i hate that too. i rather play some music and show them how they sound and show the excursion than saying hey touch them. they are soft and stiff. hahaha

i tell ppl when i show my subs... you touch you die. same with my home theater speakers. my son doesnt get more than 4 feet from them cause he knows how much i hate it when ppl touch them

lol allright next
