Hey all
Has anyone out there run one of these (v.2) with a 1.5 ohm load in mono?
Thanks J

i wouldn't try that with that amp. once the smoke gets out it's ahrd to get it back in. 2 ohms is where i would run it. actually i'd keep it at 4 be happy with the better sound quality. buts that's just my opinion.

Hello
If I were to liquid cool or use a TEC could I run the amp at that low an impedance? Since I've never used it in the 5 years I've had it I don't want to modify it (yet) but need something that could provide around 125 - 150W each to 3 subs. I'm getting rid of my Celestra, it takes up toooooo much space and want something smaller with at least as good SQ. The SQ part is what's keeping me away from going to a class D, they sounded horrible when I played with them a few years ago. What about the ZPA 0.3? a friend has one for sale, $600CAD with 140 or so hours on it.
Thanks J

the zpa is a bit better amp. but i would just stick with the zx500 if you already have it. if you wanna get a sub amp go for a tantrum or a qx if money is tight, the octane are very affordable too

I believe that amp had impedence protection anyways.

My understanding is with a ZX500 is that when you run the amp lower than 2 ohm it allows you to do so, but the Damping goes into the toilet.

what configuration gives you 1.5?

Hey
Personally I don't believe the QX or Tantrum lines sound as good as the ZX amps, but thats just me. I have 3 Dynaudio MW190s with an impedance correction network attached to them, when I tested the impedance vs. freq at school it averaged out @ 1.49 ohms. Too bad the damping decreases as the impedance decreases but that's related to the Zout of the amp. (know what it is perchance?)
I found a old Soundstream Class A6.0 in my basement (thought I'd sold it a few years ago) from what I remember these are suited to driving low impedances in bridged config or am I wrong? I think I will give it a try if it does.
Thanks alot J

Ahh, the old Class A 6.0. What you want to do is flip it over and take the plugs out. Under one will be a stereo, mono, stereo/mono switch. Flip it to mono.nder the other plug will be a high power, high current switch. Flip that to high current, and you are set to run 1/2 ohm mono loads!
