pioneer shallow problem - need help
 

hello, i got a new pioneer shallo 10" sub and i hooked it up to my amp, it worked great until now, all of the sudden the bass stoped and there was a funny smell in the car like some thing was burning. so i checked the amp and the two fuses were gone so i changed them and thought that i found the problem but then i turned it back on the it starts playing so i turn up the volume and the bass stops again, this time the fuses are fine and the wiring is all fine. there is a green light on the amp and when the volume goes more than 15 the light turns red and the bass stops. i took the sub out of the box and it smelled funny, i tried it again without the box and the same thing happens. does anyone know where the problem is?
btw the amp is a sony xpload 600 watt 4/3 channel and the sub is 800 watt and i was bridging it so there is no way i could over power it or underpower because the subs min is 200 watt

ooh i forgot to mention that when it hooked up my old kicker to the amp it worked just fine so there is no problem with the amp

Ummm you are a little off on your readings. That sub is rated 200 watts RMS and 800 max. You blew your sub. the 200 in not the "minimum". meaning your should have a 200 watt rms amp. Sorry but you need a new sub.

Fuses gone in the amp also could indicate a amp failure as well. If the sub smells, chances are better than the average bear that it has had it's day at the picnic table. Time for a new sub and then learn how to set the amp properly.

i dont think its blown because i wasnt running 600 watts to it, the amp is 600 watt max and i was inly running 300 to it and if its 800 max how can 300 blow it? also the sub plays fine when the volume is under 15 if i go more than 15 the amp shuts off, and it cant be a problem with the amp because my old sub works fine

Ok here goes.... When the sub "burns" it literally burns the coating on the voice coils thus reducing the resistance on it. When you play your amp low it can handle the reduced ohm but once you turn it up it shuts off on protect. What is the model of the amp? If it is a 300 watt rms amp to a 250 watt rms sub and you had the gains up and were playing it loud.... bye bye sub. Since you say the burning smell is in the box.... it was the sub that burnt.

the amp is a sony xplode model XM-460GTX the box for the sub says 200 watt nominal and 800 max

In looking quickly I am having a hard time finding a Sony 4/3 channel amp that does 300 watts RMS. I see 300 watts max. Is it possible you under powered your sub and had things cranked to compensate thus distorting the crap out of it and frying it that way?

Sorry bro but once you release the magic smoke from a sub thers no way to put it back in ..... you need a new sub

That amp only does 150 watts rms for the one channel. Again, Were you distorting the crap out of it?
