Hey guys I am quite new to the forum here and first wanted to say great site!! I am a forum moderator over at www.celispeed.com which is an Ontario Celica Club. Anyways I plan to finally put an audio system into the car after over 4 years and want it to be very clean. I have a friend who does all custom fiberglass enclosures so I am going to have my entire trunk done with everything custom mounted and then colour matched to the exterior of the vehicle. Anyways the reason I am posting is basically because I have a question about 2 amps. I currently have a JL Audio 300/2 which I bought brand new, it's still in the box. Now I have a hook up to pick up a used 300/4 amp from someone at work for $500.00 OBO. I also know another guy selling his XTANT 4004 amp for $500.00 firm. I want to have my amps matched up which leads me more towards grabbing the JL Audio. However, I heard that the XTANT is a better 4 channel amp. Can anyone confirm? Do both these prices seem reasonable for these amps to begin with? Secondly, I have a 10" aluminum cone ECLIPSE sub which I also picked up brand new. I am wondering if my JL 2 channel will be enough to power this sub? I was even considering a 2nd sub of the same brand obviously. What if I was to then pick up a second 300/2 and have one to run each sub and the 300/4 for my highs? I have that idea running through my mind or to just sell this 300/4 and pick up the XTANT 4 channel and get a huge XTANT 1 or 2 channel to run the 2 Eclipse subs (when I buy a second sub of course). I hope some of you take the time to read through this and can help steer a guy in the right direction who has been out of the audio scene for a good 8 years now probably.

I will be around lots!

Oh and here is a pic of my car if anyone cares.. hehehe

Nice ride, we have a couple of nice Celica's out here on the Island as well. What is the exact model# of the Eclipse sub? This will help to determine which way to go for a sub amp and second sub. I use these same subs in my MR2 and am more than happy with the performance they give.

The xtant 4004 is long out of production and they do not have any matching amplifiers to it anymore. Even if they did, they do not have one large enough to properly run this sub and have the sub deliver what it was engineered to do. Before I do any more research on the amps, I need to know about the sub and if you are infact going to go to a second sub or not. One sub is great, it will give you great sq, uses a real small sealed enclosure (1.25 cu.ft.) that you can glass in pretty much anywhere. Two subs will own, it will rapidly produce a greater SPL level, give much more authority across all frequencies and generally speaking, you don't need to work the sub as hard to produce bass as you do with one sub. The downfall is that it is a little more airspace for 2 and the fact that a second amp or a single large amp will be necessary, the latter being the better way to go.

If you already have the 300/2, why not get a 500/1 to run your sub and use the first amp for your front end? That way you have a matching set, the 500/1 will run 1 or 2 of those subs if you decide to get another one, and it will make for a sweet looking trunk... :D

Thanks a lot for all of the helpful advice. First off this might sound retarded, but where is the model number on the sub? I just went and got it and looked the sub over and there is nothing on it but the ECLIPSE logo on the aluminum cone. I do have the box for it with the model number but I need to explain something. A good friend of mine originally had this sub. He blew it and it was still under warranty. He asked if I wanted to buy the brand new replacement from him when it arrived to which I agreed. This is because he would be upgrading to 2 15" subs now. However, I am not sure exactly how this went - but something to the effect that the model of sub he had would not work with my JL 300/2 so they ordered a different sub? Maybe a DVC instead of a SVC or something to that extent? This is what I am not sure of, so I don't know if the box I have here was for his original sub or my warranty replacement. Can anyone help me out to find out forsure?

Hmmm maybe I should do that.. actually I was just checking out this Echo at http://www.jlaudio.com/Gallery/Insta...fm?Veh_ID=1228 and was thinking on doing something maybe similar ampwise. What if I kept my 300/2 for the door speakers, picked up this guy's 300/4 he is selling at work and then grabbed a 500/1 for my Eclipse 10" sub? The 3 amps would fill my trunk nicely when I do the fiberglass install. I think maybe I'll just run the single 10" rather than 2 as I am more concerned about the overall looks of the install and cleanliness rather than a deafening thump - lost too much of my hearing from previous vehicles. :D

Can anyone recommend the best place to pick up JL AUDIO amps as far as price is concerned? I was just talking to another guy in our Celica club about them as he has all JL AUDIO amps himself. He told me the following prices on these amps from his shop:

500/1 - $600. + taxes
300/2 - $540. + taxes
300/4 - $550. + taxes

He is not sure about these prices being exact to what he just told me but said they are somewhere in that ballrange. They seem quite as I called a local shop myself about a month back and was given a quote of $849. on the 300/4 and $799. on the 300/2 + taxes of course.

Well the GT is the lower end model of the Celica. It is 140HP whereas the GT-S is available as a 6 spd. with 180HP. If you raced a GT automatic they are pretty slow. The 5 spd. has a bit more pep to it. In comparison the GT-S and a Acura RSX-S are neck to neck in stock form. There are guys running high 12's and low 13's with extensive work done.

Personally I went with 'all show and no go' but that keeps me outta trouble.

No.. basically in the beginning it was just Celispeed.com which represented all of Ontario as far as Celica's are concerned. Well a few people became disgruntled with other members of the club and started there own club which was C7Performance.com So with that said, there is much hatred between the 2 clubs sad to say. Me, being a moderator at Celispeed would not be wise to attend a C7 event.
