Please help me spend my $$money$$

I have been reasearching and looking and deciding and still have not come up with an answer. Just when I think I have picked out what I would like I either find out a bit of info that debunks my idea or I change my mind.

I have see people post their budget and get gear posted to fit please feel free. Mine is between $1500 and $2000. I have the sub box already and the 4 door speakers so they do not fit itn the budget. I am looking for sound quality not quanity. My two options were as follows:

Option 1
1 JL10w6.......$350
5 channel amp or amp that could run 4 Alpine 6.5 type R's and a single sub
head unit (looked at the alpine 9887 or the kenwood 991 or 791)

Option 2 since I have a dual 10 box
2 JL10W6.....$700
4 channel amp for the type R's
Mono amp to run the 2 JL's

I think I am within my budget for the singel sub system and think this will give me the best option for sound quality but unsure about the dual, this may even give me too much base and not the SQ. I do not really know as I am a Home Theater guy not a car audio guy.

I am getting tired of reasearching and I am ready to purchase. Any input would be greatly appericiated on any gear as long as it is good quality.

Thanks Phil

What kind of a box do you have? Is it built for two JL's or is it a crappy prefab? As far as SQ goes if you are committed to JL W6's you need to make sure that you have an appropriate box for them. If you want true SQ look at setting up an active crossover for your front stage.

The box is a prefab to fit the truck mabe by a company called subthump, I heard it was a good box and on that note it is one of the few to fit the new 08 2500 Serria. I am not stuck with the JL sub but I am with the box.

Here is the link to the box

IMO, there are options out there that are going to be as good, if not better as far as SQ goes for the money...One example I will put is a SI Mag, as you appear to be slightly limited on space...

Phil, I would be happy to get a estimate together for you. I have made some comments in your threads and was looking for some input on the questions posed but I did not see any replies to them (mind you I just got home from work and have not looked again).

It is waaaay early in the am right now and I am headed for some serious nap time. I will be around my shop tomorrow around 12:00 PST and will start up a system for you at that time. If that is too late for you, call me collect, 250-897-3397 at my shop which opens at 10:00am and have Brendan wake me up. I will get to the store asap after that.

I just had a quick look at the JL sub, it is going to be too deep for the enclosure. The enclosure will take a 6.5" deep sub, the JL is 6.9". I will look into some stellar subs for you. Best bet if it means it is to start with one sub and expand to a second one later, especially if it means getting a better set of front speakers or superior cd player.

I am going to sign onto msn, forbidden@telus.net, add me and blast me a message if you like.

I am going to base the system around a good single cd player, no need for the double din if it offers less performance. By that I mean there is no way that Pioneer double din unit you sent me the link to is going to compete with a Eclipse for tonal response and the ability to make the system come alive. We can keep it as a option if you prefer it though. The system needs to be right for you and your applications.

hey MR2NR how much for an eclipse 7200MKII???

PhilD 12-10-2008 07:41 PM

Well it has been a long time and after reading a gettign advice and seeing just exactly how much space I have in my box (which is not much .88 ft3) I have made a decision.
For now I am holding off on the headunit and just going to use the factory HU. I will be going with the Kenwood KFC-XW1200F sub just one for now and a Kenwood KAC-X1R to drive it. For the door speakers Alpine type R's I will be adding a Kenwood KAC-X4R to help them along and be replacing the stock tweeters with a set of Hertz ET20's. I am hoping that this will be a good setup and in the future all I will have to do is add a head unit and if there is not enough base another sub. I feel I am getting a good deal so I have booked it to all be installed on the 17th. I am sure I will be happy with the upgrades compared to the stock system. Any input on my decision would be appericiated.

Thanks for the input and MR2NR I am sorry I could not have done business with you but I do appericiate your time.

Later
Phil

I am sure that you will end up with a good system. FYI, there are lots of smoking deals on right now since we last talked....... gotta love deals.....

Why so large of a amplifier on the sub? Too much power is a sub destroyer.
