The SQ sealed is excellent IMO. Definitely not as loud as ported. Seeing as your not overpowering them by any means you should not have to worry about over excursion as long as you have them in the right size sealed enclosure.

You gonna need to know how much air space you currently have. What size you want to try sealed then begin to calculate how much MDF your going to have to add to remove the right amount of airspace.

I'd use this to help you.
OK. I see what you were saying, I misread your post. MY bad.

The problem with going that route is now your sealed enclosure is even larger than your ported one. ie: if the ported box was built to JL spec of 1.875 then now your at about 2 cubes maybe even a little more with the box sealed the way you have it. If you seal it the way in my diagram you can ensure a perfect seal. Usually you have to install 3 strips due to being limited by the sub opening. This way your also removing some of the air from the actual enclosure. One layer across the back as I've illustrated should be really close to your recommended sealed volume of 1.625.

after measuring I come up with each chanmber having 1.72 cubes. not counting the area taken up by the sub.

This is with the board arrangemnet in my original diagram.

Also the subs seem to make a almost fluttering noise when i listen to them with the trunk open. With the trunk closed and in the cabin it sounds good though.
