poly-fill in sub box.. does it work?
was wondering if anyone had any experience/opinion on the stuff?
specifically for a pioneer single 10"/bassworx box combo i just bought on sale at futureshop. thanks. |
yes it does work.
Even in ported boxes (be sure to attach it to the sides) 1lbs of fibrefill per 1 CF is the most beneficial. In a sealed box it allows the box to appear larger to the subwoofer. up to 20% larger |
where do i get the stuff from?
just audio places? |
Walmart is the cheapest place I have found.
Will be called polyfill and ti is in the fabric section for making pillows and the like. Usually couple bucks per lbs. |
I've had great results using it over the years. It's especially good for space constrained systems, where the box has to be a little smaller than optimum. It's effect seems to diminish as the box size increases though, so it seems to be best for smaller( up to 3.5-4.0 cubes) boxes.

thanks all. so just to confirm, this isn't special car audio stuff. and it's called 'polyfill'?
is it the same as 'dacron'? learning by the minute ;) |
yes, pillow stuffing, dacron polyester fibrefill, available at any fabric store, department store and many hobby and craft stores.

if your going with a ported box make sure u have a wire fence before the port or it will all blow out like cotton candy
