Porsche Boxster sound system

I'm no expert on car sound systems so thanks in advance for your patience. I recently purchased a 2008 Porsche Boxster S with the Bose sound system upgrade (but no GPS navigation). I have 3 questions:

- Any suggestions on how I can add iPod integration to the system?
- The sound quality of the system isn't great and so I may replace it altogether with something that includes nav. My budget is around $4K. Any suggestions?
- What shops in the Greater Toronto Area would you recommend?

Thanks.

David

This may be a tricky install. I just checked my on line support for dash kits, and wiring harness, and nothing. Parts may be available from other suppliers??? You may be better off seeing how much from VW the navagation peice is for this thing, and it may come with an aux in. If there is any money left over, there are some good line output converters, in which you could enhance the noise and add a sub if you perfer.
I am in BC so sorry I don't know any one in your area.

Thanks. Much appreciated. I'll probably replace the whole system. The shop I've been talking to is recommending an Alpine unit, but I've read their navigation system isnt great. What do you think?

Hmmmm...
I just checked out another supplier of dash kits, wiring harnesses etc. nothing listed for your car. I am not sure about porsche, but the bose systems in the gms are a pain to bypass with-out the right parts. Be sure that the shop has done Porsche before, you don't want some newbie messing things up. If I were to takle this I would charge $150.00 just to check to see if I could make an aftermarket piece work (shop time of disassemble just to get to the wiring harness)... As for the Alpine, I am not sure about the Nav., although I personally do not like the sound of Alpine (oh no I might hear back on that one)....I really think that Clarions in after market have the smoothest sound, and the nav is pretty good.
just my opinion.

just found a kit for this car...
Connect 2 dash kits....I'm sure they do the wiring harness as well,
Sorry for the previous post....(except for the part about alpine???)

Good advice. Coincidentally, I found a shop today that has experience with Porsches (www.khf.ca). Seem like good guys, and knowlegeable. You are right, apparently the fibre optic technology used in the cars make them difficult to work on. Thanks again.

By the way,
I see they do eclipse. This is great product, although distribution in Canada is null and void. If they have eclipse in stock with nav. I would lean heavily on this product, although my experience is a couple of years old with this stuff. 2 years ago it was about the best stuff (in head units) you could buy. Pioneer and Alpine both have very distorted sounding boards. What I mean is at about 60% of the volume level, and those two companies become hard to listen too. Get them to turn them up, you should hear what I am talking about.
More of my two sense.

:retard: You're arguing the sound quality of the built in power chip? In my experience, they are all marginal. :ohwell:

I'm glad you found a shop that knows Porsche. I put a Kenwood touch screen nav in my buddies Carrera a couple of years ago and the only place we could find a kit and harness was a specialty shop that sells them on ebay. It worked perfectly.
