port firing into strut tower, bad?

im wondering are there disadvantages to having the port on the side of the box? the port would be a inch or 2 away from the rear strut tower....

im trying to come up with a box design for my 15s and i can only go 34" wide so im left with 2.25"(wide) port that i could fit on the front of the box but its to small and making my tuning below 25

Seen one of Yuli's designs port firing right up close to the strut towers. Likely a lil more than 2" though. Maybe 3 -5"... :dunno:

it doesnt matter where the port fires period. as long as it loads.

Loads???

I think a 2" gap between the port in your car is far to small though

_HeC_ 10-17-2009 04:10 PM

interesting, well i guess ill do a side port and see how it works out

:smilie_da Port loading is a good thing.... :) Let us know how it worked out for you.

have you considered aero ports?

and what are your other dimensions you can use?

34widex__heightx__long?

_HeC_ 10-17-2009 08:58 PM

dont tink aero ports will work on the front of the box with hte subs, i looked into them before and the ones i looked at where 6.5"s wide

34x15.5x23

i have more info in this thread below,

have you seen my design for duel 15's in a trunk? lol!! ;)
http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...Untitled-6.jpg

wait you only have 5.66 net before sub and port displacement? so 5.2cubic after sub displacement then you have to factor in port displacement. so you will you be starving these subs for air (space)???

CrazyKenKid 10-17-2009 09:20 PM

o wow you do have tiny trunk lol! maybe you should have went with 12's?

_HeC_ 10-17-2009 09:36 PM

the RFs? 15s, 4" ID port(forget the length)

i find upfiring in a trunk sucks lol but ive never tried ported upfiring before

CrazyKenKid 10-17-2009 09:42 PM

or how about subs firing up and port firing into the cabin!! ?

CrazyKenKid 10-17-2009 09:45 PM

2-4inch ports? interesting i don't see a flare on those lol!! but for 2-4's wouldn't you use those for 2-12's? or would you need more port area? i could be wrong

_HeC_ 10-17-2009 09:45 PM

seats dont fold down

ya no flare, ghetto PVC piping lol i went with what the RF manual said

CrazyKenKid 10-17-2009 09:48 PM

lol ghetto fab!! ftw lol!! maybe step down to 2-12's would be a better fit?

_HeC_ 10-18-2009 01:40 PM

ya a couple people think i could be louder with 1 15 instead of 2 in a small box, im gonna see if i can get a box through the rear seats(gotta remove them), i might have to trim some metal but if it works i could probably do 34x15.5x35 which would be 8.8cubes

if the box is too small(internal volume is what we care about) for 2 15's then you may very well be louder with going down to just 1 15" but using a larger box e.g. 2 15" in a 3.0cuft box or 1 15" in a 3.0 cuft box. if all things were equal the single sub set up would most likely do better

CrazyKenKid 10-18-2009 05:44 PM

34x15.5x35 NICE

if you can get those sizes you can use my box design!! and while you are at it if you can get that much cubic you might as well toss some nice subs in there that will pound!!

like Fi or sundown (a kid on here is selling some i think)
