A guy that I know is building a box to house two 12'' Flame Q's by Audiobanh, and is currently designing the box layout, he is dividing the box in the middle to basically form two boxes, and he is making each box 2.5 cubic feet volume. For the ports, Audiobahn suggests 4 inch diameter that are 7-3/4 inch deep, now after thinking about it, does it matter at all where he places the ports? Originally he wanted to put them under and over to the side of the sub itself, but then after some design changes, he doesn't have that room, so could he place them right on top of the box without causing anything, or even have the ports comming out of the side? he wanted to put the ports somewhere, and then just play around with the amount of fiber inside the box until it sounds just right, but he doesnt want to add too much pressure on the subs and cause damage, because he has a 2200 mono watt amp at 4 ohms to run this set up, so these things will be played to the max. Thanks for your input.

Ideally you want the ports on the same plane as the subs, but you can really put them wherever they will fit and it should still work fine. I have my port on the side of my box, in fact. Just don't put them on the bottom [img]tongue.gif[/img]

There's several things I would look at when building a sub enclosure...

A:SQ or SPL?

B:Trunk or hatch?

C:How much of the trunck/hatch are u willing to sacrifice?

I pretty sure all these come into play even when it comes to port placement...But I maybe wrong too...

I'd also look into what these guys are saying about them being mids...

I think the thing about them being mids is more of a diss against Audiobahn then a serious statement. They are deifintely subwoofers; who the hell makes 12-inch mids, anyway?

Most PA drivers are mid range use, even 15" mid range speakers aren't uncommon. But in a car audio setting.... ? I've never seen any that were designed exclusively for car audio use, being 10's or bigger.

I thought all the design work was on the chrome flames....the motor and cone are just dressing, no?

They have no bass, and lots of mid, at least the ones I've heard.
