Just wondering if this difference is because of box type or other factors..
In my buddy's car, even when on low volumes, his subs pack some major punch... like the kind where u can feel the kick drums on ur chest... And mine, i need to turn it up pretty loud to get the same effect... and even then its not nearly as good as his. Just wondering what the difference between the two stereos would be? i'm not sure what his setup is whatsoever, but would it be because of power/sub quality? or could it be attributed to box type? I'm running a ported box, but i know for a fact its not tuned to my subs at all.. its one of those ones u just buy in a store and throw subs in. Any suggestions would be helpful?

You haven't provided nearly enough information. Some of the factors that could affect low end output:

1. sub make/model/size
2. box - design, construction quality
3. power - sufficient amount?
4. vehicle - a wonderful thing called cabin gain

There are many more, but this is the mainstay - give us more info and I'm sure someone will be able to pinpoint it. You running a generic vented box prolly has a good bit to do with it ;)

yeah, i think the generic box is kinda... not good. :rolleyes: the reason i was asking was i was thinking of blocking off the ports to my box, and although not as good as sealing it, would have basically the same effect as a sealed box... would this do anything? anything worthwhile anyway?

your box is tuned too low thats why.

I would have to agree with the comment of not having enough info.

What is it you are looking for in subwoofer performance?

What kind of amp do you have?

What kind of vehicle?

Are you looking for the chest kick?

I can think of various sealed or vented systems that will work, but there has to be a bit more info to really know what type or cards have been dealt.

ported for sq as long as its tuned low and you have good midbass then yes.

as for sealed for spl..... wtf
