I know good ones like Krown, Marantz etc. but wonder if the Pyramid is any good?

I know their car audio is garbage, but I have been looking at some pyramid power amps and they look solid, but have yet to listen to them etc.

One i was looking at was a Pa600x, 150 X 2 rms power amp

If you're not expecting too much from it, you won't mind it.

The power stated on the front is hoowey. But the RMS power they state in the manual is real continuous RMS power.

The pyle pro (same company) '3000watt' model is really 320RMS x 2 @ 4ohm and probably has enough headroom so it can hit 1500x2 peak watts into a reactive load.

Shop around, if you can get em at a good $/watt ratio, then go for it. Otherwise there are lots of other brands.

My Dad has picked up peavy 1.3k's (2K RMS bridged) used but mint for around $600 can.

Edit: that's at a retail store too....

Yup, those brands are all good. I'd just keep looking untill you find something that suits you for a good price. It sounds like you just want a simple gain block, but you might want to hold out for something that has crossovers, ect...

Heck, yesterday my buddy gave me (free!) a reciever that can do 180RMS x 2. I just have to find a remote control that will work with it....

What are you looking to do with the amp? DJ? Home Use? What speakers do you have?

Home Use

to power 2 Acoustic Research Ar-3a

They need around 200 watt rms each to start sounding good. I was reading a guy who throws 350 rms X 2 on them from a Macintosh and he says they can still take more. Not very effecient but amazing speakers for their time.
