Power and caps
Ok im gonna be runnin 2 amps:
250 watts rms to sub and 200 watts rms to infinty kappas + 22 wATTS RMS from hu to fronts (or rears, ....havent decided yet) =473 watts I was planning on running 6 guage to one amp, then jumpin power to next amp from terminal with 6g as well. Is a capaitor a must for this setup? I dont want to strain my alternator too much, and is a concern. My boss is an electrical engineer and was telling mew there was something i could do with diodes to limit this aswell if it ewas on a sort of relay switching system. It is very important to me to get this right the first time and would really appreciate anyones help thnx boyz |

ok i have been doing some reading and have found out i have a 90 amp alternator. I will be drawing 475 watt rms from amps which would be a 32 amp drain on battery. If i upity the wire guage from alternator to battery to a 4 guage, and the chasis ground from negative terminal, I think i will do without the cap for the time being.
Does this sound sufficient? Am I gonna have to upgrade the alternator?(which i will next time, but was not counting on right now) I have a 148 hp motor(roughly 110kw) As always, I very much appreciate the feedback. thnx |
Do the big three. I doubt that you will need to upgrade your alternator at this time, but if the big three still doesn't help then you could consider it.

I would
run good power wiring and run at least a 1 farad cap, it helps with noise suppression and ease the spike load from battery.:smokin:

You should be fine without a capacitor. As stated all over this forum (LoL), capacitors can actually cause more strain on your electrical system if your alternator cannot handle the load. This is because as your system voltage drops, your cap voltage follows. Therefore, as the alternator begins to recharge the system, it also has to recharge the cap.
The general rule of thumb for caps is 1 Farad per 1000W. As stated earlier, you should be okay without a capacitor. |
I run some good power in my setup,with a stock alt and have no problems without a cap.
