Preventing water from damaging speakers

I have a set of MTX components and after about a month of use one of the midbass speakers blew. I thought it just might of been a bad set so I returned them for another set, although the same thing happened again with the new set within a few weeks as well. I came up with a couple of solutions as to why this has happened and they are due to: Head unit power(not amped), unlevel baffle, or water damaged. I dont think its due to the headunit power because the speakers are rated at 90 watts, while the headunit was only delivering 18 watts. I think the problem is either due to an unlevel baffle or water damage, so how would I go about solving both of these problems? and is water even one of the culprits? I dont have a problem with water damaging the stock speakers.

if you bump it hard, you might of fried them with a clipped hu power.
i had my mids in doors for 2 years and no problems with water.

you are pushing your speakers and undr powering them (you need an amp )

I am getting an amp before I install another set of the components, but I just want to make sure I do everything right so they wont blow again.

What type of car, and how are they installed? Pics would help.

my guess is that you sent them a clipped signal from your hu.

The car is a 2002 Chysler Sebring. The original speakers were 6X9 so I made a custom baffle for them.
