protection keeps poping on ?
 

k well i went from a 340 watt amp to a MA Audio 800 watt amp ( fairly old but still goood... my friend was running 2 900 watt 12's off it) ... But now i got it hooked up n i put on 2 10" 600 watt Ultra Linier subs ( CRAP but all i got till i get into the city for new ones ) but yea u turn it up to much n protection pops on :S i dunno why. I got a dual amp wiring kit from walmart with 5 Gauge power wire and 9 gauge ground and power after the splitter, would that be causing it cuz of the 5 gauge power to 9 gauge ground? Or is the thing just wore out maybe lol

WTH, 5 gauge and 9? get your self some real wire and do it properly. the ground should never EVER be smaller then the power wire. thats wally world for ya. re-wire it then check back.

Please tell us exactly what model amp you have. Are you using it in 2 channel mode or bridged. What model subs to you have? Are they dual voice coil? How do you have them hooked up? Before searching for wiring problems lets look at your setup. Maybe you are connecting your subs in a way that provides too low an impedance to the amp.
How loud do you go before protection goes on. Are you sure the subs are not blown?

As for ground wiring, yes, generally if you are going to hook things up right the first time, you use same gauge ground. But ground wires are usually very short to begin with and are therefore much lower in resistance, compared to the long positive wire to the battery. It is the overall resistance that counts.

The impedance of the subwoofers is important here. What is the impedance that your amp is seeing? What is it stable to?

seems like you have a loose wire somewhere.

yes i know how stupid the wiring was but i just got a cheap walmart wiring kit ... but today i got some 4 gauge ground wire ( all that was in town lol... i mean all anywere lol) .... k well the amp model number is m680i n i tried 2 Ultra linear 600 watt subs ( not sure model number ) but it will pop the protection on just before the subs hit about top performace......

If they are blowen will that pop protection? Cuz i think one of them slightly rubs inside and after a while the dust cap gets hot.

But im goin to call my friend see if he left his 15" thump at his parents house in town n if i can borrow it so in a few days ill see wat happens ......... thanks alot people.... seems everyone tells me diff n no one knows alot around here so im learning alot of the proper stuff ( im the smartest when it comes to car audio in my town so u can imagine how stupid some of these peep are :P )


OHH ya n the amp is 2 ohm stable n ive got them wired up running 4 ohm to the amp... ive tried bridged or one sub to each channel .... 2 channel amp....

Seems as though your subs are "blown" or close to being. The voice coil is probably touching the pole and arc'ing the amp ... BAD NEWS. Get news subs before the amp goes up in smoke which may cause a fire.

damn if its goin to wreck my amp then im mad haha... i thought maybe the sub would just smoke haha.... well yea i dont have them hooked up nemore cuz i didnt wanna burn out the amp wit the protection goin on all the time . Thx for the info
