i like my legacy amp
|
I have 2 pyle 10" subs I bought from fcsurplus.ca I luckily bought them in the store so I didnt waste any more cash on shipping, the dude who worked there sold me a lanzar amp which isnt totally awful, I found the pyle subs far to pitiful and by this time I was working at a fairly decent job so I opted to finally do some upgrading, so I went into 2001 audio video and asked for the best 2 10" subs, so they sell me 2 alpine type S, which were clearly not the best, but the best that they had and god forbid they lose a sale to refer me to a good shop. evil commission workers, so I upgrade to the 2 alpines, in the pyle box haha, and I upgraded the wiring to 4 ga, I had a nice little patch bay built so the system could be completely removed if I needed the space in my jeep, but it was crappy wire so I opted for the 4 ga I just wanted to get a good system going. so I went and again hit the big box store and got a ported bassworx box from futureshop, It made a huge difference but I still wanted more, so I got an alpine mrd1005 and hooked it up to the alpines in the bassworx box, I blew the alpines one after the other, haha got a bit too power hungry, so I went to an alpine type X 10" still keeping the stupid bassworx box and planning on actually getting 2 type x subs in there, it blew so I upgraded to a 12" type X in the Type X box they sold in my local stereo shop, my lights were dimming a lot so I got a 5 farad cap, it worked great until a road trip, 2 hours later of blasting the **** out of it and i stop at the intersection coming to my house and it blew, (I later find out my alternator and battery just cant cope especially at idle,) so the next day I was going to return it to the stereo shop and replace it, but some jerks decide to rob me, I think i know who it was too but we'll see what happens about that... so an insurance claim and a bit of playing with the old pyle subs and the lanzar amp, later I get a kicker compvx and alpine pdx1000.1 and man what a journey, so thats my, what was first meant as an answer to what is wrong with pyle or jensen, and now the whole story of my experiences in car audio, basically stay away from any store that will stock pyle or jensen, because it is all crap. wow, what a journey, I at some point had a legacy amp and a 10" punch which wasnt too too bad to me at the time but thats just because it was my intro to any bass in a car.. ok bed time

I can't really attest to new Pyle products, but I have an old-school 15" paper cone Pyle that I built into a 4th Order bandpass quite a few years ago and it sounded great. I still use it in my home audio setup. It's kinda funny but I ended up dubbing it "The Bull". Being a 4th order, of course the box was frickin huge so I needed to port it outside of the box so I could keep the box small enough for the trunk. I put 4" PVC and to get the length I needed and still have it fit in the back of my '95 Cavalier I had to put some angles and wrap them....they look like bull horns. I'll have to snap a pic. :)

I used Jensens XS series back in the day and hit 144db with 2-10"s in a bandpass. Pretty good for $50 subs
Pyle I have never used. |
was that the ones with the fatty surround?
i know i have seen some at walyworld wit a small rolled surround and some at like radioshack with a really fat surround. |
Both companies used to be the sh!t in pro and commercial sound... :ohwell:
these days well some of their products look fairly cheesy and of course the power ratings are inflated.... but there isn't anything inherently wrong with the equipment... at least not when compaired to most other mainstream brands out there.... |

Makes me wonder what they were thinking when they decided to branch out.....:dunno: |
I think it's a deal where they get the big contracts from places like Future Shop, Best Buy, Canadian Tire, etc but these places want them to build to spec and keep costs down. So they alter their line and basically make lesser of a product than they used to.
That's one of the reasons I went with my Kenwood this time around. Kenwood has enough divisions in the electronics world that they don't need to rely on one particular corner of business to keep the money coming in and can stay true to each independant line they run. I loved my Alpine 9813, but I don't think their product is quite as good as it used to be either. I'm not saying Alpine sucks or anything, I just think that the sound quality isn't as good as it used to be, paritcularily when you look at their base line. It seems like you have to go top of the line just to get what you once would find at mid level. |
^^^^Your right man Alpine is not like how there old school car audio was those were the days:smilie_da
