Pyramid Amps
 

Hey, I have heard alote of things on how Pyramid products are just plain garbage.
Well, I can get a good deal on a new PYRAMID PB779X Amp. This is my very first set up, and was wondering if this is an alright amp ?

hey man we all started off some where take me for instance I started off with a sanyo 2 ch 200 watt amp and one of the first pioneer impp 10s used a line level converter and an 8awg kit and the sub I put it in a home stereo speaker ha it rocked i love havin the only so called system out of all my friends .. just remember to have fun with it .

I'm a fairly big noob to the car audio market myself. In my first experience I bought an American Legacy 1600watt amp and paired it with two Kicker CVR 12" subs. All of it was cheap and I found it on ebay. I had this setup under the backseat of an extended cab GM truck and it pounded like hell.

I'm from a rural area and I moved into Winnipeg for college and took a car to the city. I put this setup into my 96 honda accord, which unfortunately i'm dtill driving, and it didn't have even close to the same bass that the truck did. The acoustics between the two vehicles are completely different and the same amp didn't have near enough power to deliver. I bought an Ultimate t31000 mono amp for one of the subs and kept the american legacy amp on the other, the ultimate amp hit a lot more bass than the american legacy. This is when i discovered the ratings of RMS wattage on amps. All of the cheaper amps, including the pyramid one you're looking at, always seem to be rated at bridgable max wattage, which in your case is 2000W. So the 1600W the american legacy amp was shown as is not very accurate of it's power output. Anyways, the ultimate amp was the better route, being a fair bit more in value. But the moral is to always determine what the RMS wattage and at what resistance and pair it to the system you are planning to set up. BTW, figure out what ohms you're speakers will run at to pair of the amp, or vice versa. Either the amp must be chosen for the speakers, or the speakers for the amp. I just found that out not too long ago.

Now, I am not necessarily recommending Ultimate as a manufacturer. This is only the second amp I have had experience with and it does not deliver near enough power for being paired with one Kicker CVR sub. So recently I just purchased two Kicker CVX12's and am pairing them with a mono Kicker ZX1500.1 amp at 2ohms for 1500RMS watts. The subs are 750WRMS each, so it should be a perfect match.

I just wanted to tell you my experience in car audio, what I have found out is to read what the RMS wattage is of the amps and go from there. A cheap amp may be inexpensive at the moment, but over time it will need to be upgraded. I'm not saying to go out and spend a fortune on a high quality amp, but even just buying smaller amps from name brand companies are a lot better quality than the large max wattage advertised cheaper brands.

For instance, that Pyramid amp is only 300x2 RMS, there are a lot of similar quality name brand for prices that aren't a whole lot more. Also, I like to check out ebay for good deals on stuff. It's actually where I have bought most of my components over the years.

It's not that the amp is garbage so much as the amp is severely overrated. The amp is advertised as being 2000watts but in reality you'll be lucky to see 500rms out of it.

If you're looking for a big 2000watter for a monster system look for another amp. If you just need a 500watt amp on a low low budget this one might be for you.
