Maybe try calling their 1-800 number, if nobody on here has any info for you. Good luck! |
Get a shop to build you some kicks... youll end up with better results for similar money.
Those Qlogics are junk. |
Q-Logic is distributed in Canada by Automobility / Jestar. Call them at (514)-745-8030, they will point you in the direction of a distributor in your area, they work fine, they are a little weak but can be strengthened by adding a layer of fibreglass to the backside of them.

Johnvroom....
Q Forms up here are gonna run ya around 200 easy. Plus you MAY have to deaden, plus you MAY have to repaint, plus they will not fit a 6.5" midbass (6 1/8" ios the largest, they state on their site) I got a pair of really nice, heavy, fibreglass kicks made for 250, and I am sure one could shop around on that price, and compared to the Qforms, which most shops have to special order (and therefore want you to buy beforehand), I think that the fairly small amount of money is well spent. plus, Rob seems to want to set up quite a nice front stage, so why cop out on the extra 50 bucks now? as most of the more knowledgable guys around here say, again and again, it is 'all in the install'. |
Like I asked before...look at the pic !
Does 10cm really make that much of a difference in sound ? The kickpanels are so close to the door speakers......... |

Buff, I defended the Qlogic only due to price, if there is no price advantage in Canada for goodness sake get a custom install.

You'll almost always get a better quality finished product when the kicks are custom built. I find q-logic kicks to be pretty cheaply built. You'll probably have to re-inforce them quite a bit to get a good end product.

Just one look at those Q-forms makes me
And it's not the coffee I had this morning. |
Can someone post a pic of a custom built kick panel ?
|
There are a couple sets here: http://www.sounddomain.com/memberpage/307882/1

I'll play devils advocate here and just mention that there have been a few cars that have won first place in IASCA SQ finals with Q Forms. Gary Biggs built two that I know of for sure. So they can sound good when reinforced properly, and I would rather do it that way than have a shop that doesn't know what they are doing as far as staging and imaging go, trying to build them.

Truth be told, I would have bought Q-forms in an instant if they didnt cost so damned much
If they were reasonably less than a set of custom ones, I would have definitely got them, but the price came out to be almost more for the premade ones, in the end... |
these so called custom kicks for 200 bucks....
Ive seen those before... If an installer can make molded custom kicks to match for 200 bucks, then that makes me think 2 things.. 1) crap quality custom work. 2) Good quality but the installer has no clue how to quote a job I would still prefer to see the custom work done, because done properly custom will be better. but q-forms are a good value |
I still dont understand how placing a speaker 10 cm forward in the kick panel can make so much difference in sound ???
In My CRX , the door speaker is virtually 10 cm from the kickpanel..... I dunno.......... |
Here's how to tell the difference. Measure from the drivers door speaker center to your left ear when seated in the drivers seat, now do the same from the passenger speaker to your right ear. Find the difference (l-r=difference)
Now do the same from the kickpanels. What do you find? Less pathlength difference right, and that makes all the difference. |
To the average, listener, they cant tell...
PS: I'm not entering my car in an SQ contest any time soon.... So does it justify spending $400 for 10 cm ? I dunno..... All I know is that I can probably get the same midbass outta my doors, as well as in a Kickpanel...or am I wrong ? |
The average listener can tell, it's one of the easiest changes to hear IMO.
Seriously go out to your car and do the measurements, every inch back makes quite a difference in a car like a CRX. |
Rob
Bro, homeboy, amigo, Que freakin pasa! As I wave my hand and use my Jedi mind tricks "Listen to the custom installer" You have bought nice stuff, now to close the deal & do the install right otherwise you do not get what you paid for! |
hmm.... we'll I'll put the components in the doors first... see how it sounds, if they dont sound nice to my ears, I'll put them in the kickpanels after....
okay ? :D |

since you are open to some experimentation, leave the wire on your tweeters 2-3 feet long and try moving them around for the first week or two. Try the top of the door, right above the mid, on the dash, and then in the kickpanel. I found in my Civic that while far from ideal, having the mid in the door and just the tweeter in the kickpanel was a very easy way to get surprisingly decent imaging
|
Dont expect a ton of midbass response if your just throwing the mids in the doors, you have to completely seal the door up and have a strong mounting are for the speaker to even come close to the midbass from a sealed kick panel.
I for one would definitely invest in some kick panels if your gonna be spending $450 on a set of component speakers. You think its just 10cm man, but its having the speakers aimed properly for the best soudn stage, having the midrange/midbass sealed and you wont have to deaden your doors with like 3 layers of deadening which can be quite expensive. I vote for kicks |
^ Kicks are a great way to go, but so is Dukks technique, and longer runs than 3 feet will let you try the tweets in the A pillars too. This way you hear it different ways and see which works best for you in your car (your stuff is good take your time and set it up right).
I have a 7" in my door and my door isnt sealed (I like to think of it as ported but its just leaky) and my mid bass runs full to lean depending on setup. |
by the way this is as close to agreeing as we get on this forum! :D
|
Good points guys.... It's killing me cuz I dont wanna spend $$$ on kicks, unless I really have to.
|
dont be cheap on the install when you've already dropped/will drop quite a bit on parts....
if you have to wait a little, then do it...you'll be much happier in the end... patience, young jedi.. I have the same problem...I want it all, NOW!!!...but sometimes when I do what I think will be OK for a quick fix, I end up kicking my own butt soon after Most shops/private people who will build kicks for ya will take a downpayment, too....try and look around, shouldnt be more than 250 or so for a basic set... obvously, ones like SUX 2BU's pics will probably run more, but they are quite sweet-ass-sweet cheers |
