ques re: decks and winter cold

I know this may sound like a real dumb question but here it goes:

Considering how cold it gets in the winter here in Toronto, was wondering how that affects an aftermarket deck? I have been wanting to get one with full Ipod control but was wondering how they work when its really cold?? I wouldn't keep the Ipod in the car obviously.

I remember back in 1997 I bought my first in-deck Sony cd player for my first car. When it was really cold the thing never worked and/or skipped. I have been out of the car audio loop since then.

do a search...we've covered this topic every winter. I've never had an issue in 25 years in Toronto with aftermarket equipment...and I drive a lot (50k+ a year).

They can handle the cold just fine. I live in P.E.I Canada and it can get up to -35 with the wind chill here.

the worst that should happen is what was said in the above posts, the screen may lag as the lcd is so cold the liquid crystals take a while to react the voltage to make them change.

The built-in cooling fan on our lower end Monitor/HU drags for several minutes until it heats up, very very annoying....vrrrr....vrrrrr.....vrrrrrr...

Maybe some machine oil would speed any dragging mechanics up??
