Question about quality of certain decks

Hey guys

I've only been into Car Stereo stuff for about a month now, and I originally had a Sony Xplod CDXGT410U deck. It was giving me error messages, and I heard not so good things about Sony car audio, so I exchanged it for a Pioneer DEH-2000MP. I didn't like it at all, I found it very awkward to use so I exchanged it again and now I have the JVC KD-G340. So far I like it, but I do have some questions since my knowledge in this area isn't too high.

Is JVC any good? It seems OK for the money and the guy at Future Shop said JVC are pretty good, but another Future Shop guy said the Sony was good.

Basically I just would like to know what models of deck to stay away from, and others which are recommended. I have no intention of having 10 subs that go boom boom from a mile away (not that there's anything wrong with that :)) I just want something with good quality sound that I can upgrade to get an amp and maybe one sub. I'm into Rock music so I want something that's going to sound good if I crank it, but I don't need my car sending shockwaves :) I also don't want to spend a lot of money, $200 is the most I'd want to spend on a deck right now. Perhaps in the future when I get more into it I might spend more, but for now $200 is my limit.

Yes I'm a noob at this, and I appreciate any help/suggestions I can get.

Look into Alpine.
I had Sony before (GT410). That was a really good deck. From playing around with the new Sony and Pioneer decks at work, the Sony decks seem a lot better.

I think Sony has a bad image but not that poor a product they are fine for the price. Why do you head a lot of bad crap about them?... because they sell a but-ton of stuff

JVC is a forgotten brand, nobody who 'knows' car audio buys it (same issue as Sony except JVC doesn't sell anywhere near as much). I think they work OK and sound fine you should be happy with the SQ it is better than average. Numerous competitors have used it with some success.
As for current quality control stay tuned...

I like how the one i have has presets for Rock Jazz etc. I always set my Winamp on my computer to Rock and it sounds great. In time I might look into a Kenwood or Alpine, depending on my budget. But for now it seems ok. I just am not sure what is good and what's not.
