Question from a newbie? Gain on used AMP?
 

I bought a used P3001 amp last night hooked it up today and with the gain set to 0 % when I turned up the stereo the sub would cut out but with the gain up to about 50% it seemed fine is that normal|?

I only have a cheap walmart amp before and I had the gain set to 0 % on it all the time and it didn't seem to change anything.

also what should I set the hz filter to my old amp had like 3 settings this one has a nub.

Proper gain settings are related to head unit voltage and have nothing whatsoever to do with percentages or 12 oclock, 4 oclock, or 6 oclock or anything like that. Each amp's settings are different and for the same setting the dial may be in two different places on two different amps. What does 0% even mean exactly?

I Mean I ran my old shitty amp with the gain at 0 all the way turned down on this P3001 I Have I Have to turn it to max.

if nothing else was changed...maybe you bought a dud.

I've had a similar problem, re-check your wiring, especially the ground and Rca's, but, It looks like the amp is partially blown....

ever since I turned the gain way up it seems to be fine no cutting out, also one of the RCA input is lose when I Plug the RCA cable into it it kinda slide to easy in and out is there a way to make the RCA cable fit tighter on there

lol i just bent one corner of each section of the outer part of the RCA, not the middle pin part. the corners being bent down a little gave it more grip onto the inputs for me. but seriously do that if its loose or tape it... snapping can randomly occur at the middle section of the RCA... happened to me somehow... but thats when i used to just leave my amp on teh floor of my car.
